Pushback Tugs - A few things that "should" be fixed

After the REALLY Import stuff has been fixed ie the “Press any key to continue”, maybe some attention can be paid to the Push back Tugs.

1 The Biggest Immersion Buster.

#1 Rule when you are in an Aircraft Movement Area --keep looking around and making sure where the aircraft are !!
This does not seem to apply to the Tug Operator, who ALWAYS has his back to you, unless he is actually Pulling you, and then he is look at you and not where he is Going !!

Its very Simple … He/she should always be looking towards the Tow Hook end of his tug, UNLESS he is moving the opposite way (ie Going Forward)
Otherwise , when he is Pushing, or not moving, he should be looking towards the pushing end.

  1. There are (hidden) Object Boundaries. (see video)
The Tug operator should never push you into another aircraft, or a building wall !!
Even if you are stupid enough to tell him to, or cannot talk to on the radio to stop him, because of all the other Radio chatter. (must admit, I did not try stopping him from doing that with the aircraft Brakes @!@@)

Those two would be a good simple start - obviously AFTER the much more import “Press any key to continue”, and “those few Building that are a little Tall”.

Maybe the Tow Tug can be the next thing to OBSESS Over ???

Low Rez - to keep size down – but you will get the idea,
(messed up, and did not get the MSFS sound !!! – still learning )

Apart from looking the wrong way, with me the tug operator often seems to miss the connection with the plane, starts going around the side, then suddenly reappears in the correct position and the plane starts moving.

As you say, bad for immersion. They have worked to produce a convincing figure, and then spoilt the illusion completely.

Sunglasses at night as well… at least with the marshallers.

I’ve been in situations at small airports where a ‘pull me forward’ or just a simple ‘please get out of the way’ would be more appropriate, getting them to leave or move back after engine start would definitely be more immersive, as it is I have to close my eyes every time I taxi through them

But they look so cool and hip! Keep our Hipster Marshals! … /and/ they’re wearing Rayban Aviators, come on what’s not to like? :sunglasses:

That said, without the permanent sunglasses maybe they would be able to find the right place on the aircraft to connect to the first time, without going through the fuselage first. :face_with_head_bandage:

Wow. Sarcasm won’t get you much sympathy here. The Press Any Key “feature,” is an easy fix that affects EVERYONE. It doesn’t need troubleshooting just removing. The problem you’re citing, and it is a problem no doubt, isn’t so easy to correct.

It is a wonder, however, how the issue you’ve mentioned made it through testing. No one reported that they don’t work or are wonky in the manner you’ve described? Don’t the devs have the same disappointing experience with them?

For me they don’t work at all. Wait wait wait and nothing happens. HOWEVER, the tiny app https://flightsim.to/file/853/pushback-helper-v2-0 actually gets the tug guy to work, like, immediately. Granted he’s still facing the wrong way but I suppose he’s bored and showing off.

It’s amazing to me that some modder has fixed this already as I guess it’s been a problem all through development.

Me ? Sarcastic – NEVER lol (Just Monkeying around)

Just trying to keep it light and FUN, and not take MSFS or myself too seriously.

I could have posted a typical Forum abusive critism against Asobo, complaining that they MUST fix something … instead, I chose to demonstrate my concerns about the Tug Driver, in a small video, and let others form their own opinion.

In the big Picture, with so many other unacceptable BUGS that NEED fixing, in all honesty, the Tug Driver could be argued to be more important that the stupid “Press any key to Continue” non-issue.

OK … a Little Sarcasm maybe, but it’s all FUN … isn’t it ???

BTW: I like the comment about the Driver wearing Sun Glasses at night – CLASSIC
( I missed that !!!)

There are certainly improvements that would be nice. One of the first things that ruined the tugs for me were the wheels of the tug not turning. I guess he has a fault handbrake. :relaxed:

Another “wish list” item for Asobo to have a go at once the more important stuff is sorted.

Yes, I noticed the wheel were not turning … might not have been so obvious, if the had not modeled the tire tread !!!

The best way I can sum up the “Tug” is “SLOPPY and ARMATURE” – and Sloppy / Armature is NOT something that MS should accept when it has their name on it.

What tug operator?

What Tug Operator ? – I’m looking at the Pilot … where did she come from ?

Options - General - Misc - Pilot Avatar Settings
Choose accordingly.

[Edit: Looking forward to some third-party upgrades here someday.]

I keep seeing them walking into the prop when I’m flying a TBM930.

Nobody said you have to be that “smart” to be a Tug Driver, but your survival time in the job might strongly depend on your attention span, when in Movement Areas !!

and … does MSFS use those small (European) GA Tugs to move the heavy’s as well – have fun trying that ???

Maybe they are annoyed that didn’t get to drive the “tug” in Aliens?

I’d like it if the tug operator didn’t drive into the props …

Anyone figured out how to Customize the Pilots Avatars.

I’ve already done the #1 thing … Found and flown over my house.

Time to get serious with this sim …

#2 Task. Update Pilot avatar to have MY Face !!

#3 Task Decide who’s face I want on the Co-Pilot
(That could be the difficult one !!! so many choices – after all, its a Simulator - nobody said it had to be REALISTIC !! )

Ground crew AI in general needs a serious tweak. Don’t know how many times I’ve had crew walk right into my spinning prop, or be standing right in the way as a marshaller is trying to get me to park. Or vehicles randomly cutting out in front of / through me and going absolutely nowhere.

@ Crunchmeister71

Yes, its strange that they actully do this … There appeaars to be ZONES associated with object, that if considered correctly, should help to avaoid this.

ie (From Observation in Dev Mode) Around a parking area there is an Inner & Outer zone.
The GA Tug typically Parks just ouside the Inner zone, and inside the Outer Zone.

While there is nothing to stop you driving anywhere, the AI objects should (ideally) be considering these zones, as well as the position of other traffic, in particular both AI and user controller aircraft.

It looks like a lot of the things needed to manage AI Traffic has been though about and included, but maybe the actual control of the AI traffic is still a “work in Progress”

One thing for sure, The AI Pilots sure is “not very good” and controlling and piloting the plane, on the ground !!

BTW: Just recognized your Avatar … Nice lol

A few times I had the marshaller standing inside the hangar in front of where he wants me to park and I can just barely see his wands poking through the wall.
