Hi,
as everybody (or quite… ) is publishing parameters to get acceptable results with VR, and after so many differents trials… with so many different parameters…
After having totally abandonned VR, then restarted, then abandonned… and now started again…
The fact is that on flat screen MSFS is marvellous, then u want to try a bit more and you invest in a Headset for VR… then you invest in a new CGU, may be a new processor etc… and you discover the drama !!!
VR is wonderful, you are in the cockpit, u see outside like if you were in the cockpit, when you land its incredible as you can feel the right glide to the runway, sometimes it happen that i raise both hands to take the “manche à balai” that i see in front of me ! but surprise i only have a joystick in real…
So, yes, VR is wonderful for the feeling !
But… image is far from the image you get on flat screen, very lower definition, and to get an image which is not stuttering, flickering and so on… it takes a lot of trials with many parameters in many softwares !!!
But, as i said, i just did a flight with 30 FPS constant, smooth movements, not so bad image, instruments not very easy to read, but feasible, so i write down my parameters here. They are not the best, many posts from other have helped me to get there, mainly the one from @Krazsus, but they worked. Thats a basis on which i can now try to improve…
here my parms for this last flight : (i use only initials of each parms but they are easy to find and understand when the right tool is opened)
- basis : be sure to have the right Oculus runtime set in your registry, normally it should be… but…
- first, for Airlink, ODT (Oculus Debug Tool) set the encode bitrate to 0 (mandatory or you cannot get a stable image)
- OTT (Oculust Tray Tool) : DSS : 0, ASW : 45 forced, AGS : On, FOV : 0.7; 0.7, Quest Link : bitrate = 500 ( need to try if i can put 0 here instead putting it in ODT ?)
- Oculus : Airlink selected in Beta, then 72Hz and RR 5408x2736 = 1.3x
- MSFS : RS : 50, TAA On, TLOD : 130, rest HIGH, OLOD : 100, rest HIGH or some MEDIUM, TRAFFIC : OFF, DATA : ONLINE=ON, Rolling Cache = 50 Gb on SSD
- NVIDIA : Low Latency = ULTRA, Power management = Preferred max perf, Text Filt Anisotropic = ON, Text Filt Quality = High Perf, Text Filt Trilinear = ON, Vertical Sync = FAST, VR PreRendered frames = 2
Thats it… they worked with a constant 30 FPS and very smooth even when i turn head in every way.
CPU was at about 50/70%, GPU was between 70/100%, my 32Gb RAM were used at only about 50%
I think this can be improved and i will try…
The parameters from @Krazsus were not working fine for my configurations, mystery, so i did some changes and hopefully i got something not so bad…
VR is definitely a long way and long story !!!
