Ok so I have a Quest 2, I have bought a pretty good gaming PC, have bought a fancy Hotas setup for MSFS and Squadrons, have bought Virtual Desktop, and the wheels have completely fallen off.
After letting MSFS download overnight, I fired up my new fancy HOTAS and flight stick, will admit the pedals are weird but I will figure them out. Oddly enough during the first training it went to VR I was able to fly around awhile and it was awesome, I can’t really remember the pattern I took to load everything up because the flying experience kinda blew my mind.
Anyway, move forward several hours, go to the trouble of rewiring everything for flight and now VR isn’t working or if it some how magically works its a stuttering flashing mess.
I am completely at a loss.
Now it won’t go into VR at all.
I tried changing the registry because I let the Sim load, fire up VD in my headset up and use ctrl-tab to go into VR mode but it tells me inititializion of VR failed and to check on OpenRX. There is also no option to enter VR mode in VD.
only after changing the registry, I get a message telling me it detects no headset at all. So I change the registry back to its original setting to be greeted by the failed to initialize VR message again.
I bought the game thru Steam, I have Steam VR installed, I have Virtual Desktop installed on my headset and PC, I have a PC capable of handling MSFS, and this experience is just really starting to suck.
Any help you guys could give would be very VERY much appreciated. I don’t know what in the holy hell I did differently the 1st time I fired MSFS up.
so I have no problems at all with virtual desktop and Quest 2 / Steam VR !
have you enabled developer mode in the Oculus app ?
Firewall, router - must of course be in the same network, so the PC and the headset - oculus link tried ?
for me both works and almost without latency loss !
tried sidequest with oculus link ? if the headset is not recognised with virtual desktop, it can only be due to the network settings ! Virus scanner active that might be blocking something ?
Quest 2 , Microsoft store version of MSFS, Virtual Desktop:
This is what I do
Start Oculus App
Start Virtual Desktop Streamer
Start MSFS
Quest 2 on my noggin, connected via Wi-Fi
Fire up Virtual Desktop, let it connect to the PC
Wait for MSFS to fully load
Click Start Steam VR in Virtual Desktop
Put MSFS in VR mode (I have it bound to a joystick button)
And you’re away
Oculus app is current beta version
Active registry runtime is :
C:\Program Files(x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\SteamVR\steamxr_win64.json
Steam VR is beta version
Why is Sidequest needed? They updated VD, so it no longer needs the patch, don’t need Sidequest for any other game I stream, Half Life and Onward both work great. Also don’t have the Oculus app running when I load up MSFS. Haven’t tried to run it thru Link because I have heard it works better thru VD, but at this point I’m willing to give it a shot.
Again I see you have the Oculus ap running, haven’t needed that for other Steam games, but will try that. Might also be starting steam VR earlier than that. Will follow your opening setup.
Also don’t understand the different between the Microsoft store version an Steam version as far as getting them to run.
Just been back and tried that startup without touching the Oculus desktop app and it’s been fine, VR enabled in the sim. I guess somewhere along the line it was on when I got it to work so just kept it in the list. So as you correctly suggest, not needed.
It could be that you can start Steam VR earlier, I had a few problems getting it all to work initially once I switched to VD so kind of stuck with what works and left it alone to be honest.
sorry for the late answer, was not online ! is actually the same as VD - only with oculus link cable - but has the same function in principle!
I don’t use the Oculus APP - so I start my PC - start VD on the PC - switch ON the Quest 2 (5G router already switched on) - Quest 2 is already in the WLAN - start VD in the Quest 2 itself - then I start via VD - Steam VR and via the STEAM VR library the needed application (MSFS, HL Alyx or whatever) !
