Quest 2 Virtual Desktop

This might be obvious, but just to point out that if you suffer from performance problems using virtual desktop and quest, adjust the quality settings in VirtualDesktop and you’ll notice a difference in FPS. I get a pretty stable 30+ fps using the medium quality settings.

How does this affect visual quality?

I find it very playable on medium. There is some mild fuzziness but IMO its better than quest link connection.

I’ve dialed in my settings and can obtain 24-30 FPS with MSFS2020 Ultra Settings using my Quest 2 via virtual desktop. I set my streaming bitrate in VD to 73Mbps with 100% resolution scale within the SteamVR application. I have been going back and forth between using Link and VD with the the sme Ultra settings set in MSFS220, and quite frankly I’m obtaining the same FPS/performance/visual quality via virtual desktop as I do with when using the Link cable. The only drawback using VD is battery life opposed to using Link which trickle charges the Quest 2 while using it.

Here’s a screenshot taken via VD screenshot tool during one of my flights.

Hi there,

I’ve just managed to set up quest 2 via virtual desk top today, first time I’ve used vr, where are the setting in steam vr, how do I access them?

Thanks for your help.

At the Virtual Desktop menu after connecting launch steamvr allow it to load. Then press the menu buttion on your left Quest 2 controller.

It’ll bring up your SteamVR dashboard. You’ll need to select the settings cogwheel (lower ight hand corner of SteamVR Dashboard.

From there you can change your resolution setting via the General section and toggle Auto off. You can then use the slider to increase/decrease the resolution that will be applied to your Q2 when playing MSFS2020. Mine was set at 150% and I dialed it back to 100% to use in MSFS2020. I have a RTX 3080 so I had no problem running at this resolution to obtain 24-30FPS at low altitude in MSFS 2020.

Same, having great results using VD on my 2080. But what fixed my stutters was putting my PC setting to fullscreen instead of windowed. I don’t know why , maybe because I’m using a 4k monitor? dunno but quite happy with VD
