If you’re trying to play Microsoft Flight Simulator (MSFS) with an Oculus Quest 3 headset and it’s not being detected, here are a few things you can try:
- Make sure your Quest 3 is connected properly to your PC via a high-quality USB 3.0 cable or Link Cable.
- Ensure your PC meets the minimum requirements for MSFS VR mode. You need a powerful graphics card (Nvidia GTX 1080 or better recommended).
- Update your Oculus software and GPU drivers to the latest versions.
- In the Oculus PC app, go to Settings > General and make sure “Unknown Sources” is enabled.
- Launch MSFS, go to the VR tab in Options, and make sure “Enable VR” is checked. Your Quest 3 should show up in the “Headset” dropdown.
- If the Quest 3 still isn’t detected, try restarting the Oculus Runtime Service:
- Open the Run dialog (Win+R)
- Type “services.msc” and press Enter
- Find “Oculus VR Runtime Service”, right-click and choose Restart
- If the above steps don’t work, try opting into the Oculus Public Test Channel for the latest beta software that may have compatibility fixes:
- Open the Oculus PC app
- Go to Settings > Beta
- Select “Public Test Channel” from the dropdown
I hope this helps get your Quest 3 working with Microsoft Flight Simulator! Let me know if you have any other questions.

I find disconnecting and reconnecting the Link cable after starting the Quest 3 does the trick - I can’t seem to get mine recognised otherwise
I have been using a Quest 2 and now a new Quest 3. Started out VR was excellent and now I have problems. To solve, I’ve had to update Nvidia drivers quite frequently and then make sure Microsoft updates Windows 11 and then Oculus has frequent updates. So now, as of June 10th 2024 I cannot get the PC to display in VR Hood at all! When I start the Link between the PC and the headset, the display tries to start, and then goes back to black (very frustrating)! The operation is never consistent (if walk away for a couple days and come back, I’m not always successful in getting things to work). I am using an Nvidia 4060Ti and Wired Oculus Link cable into USB C port on my gaming machine (I7 16gb). I did notice last night that when I would try to Link to computer, it would cause FS2020 to freeze up badly. Once I disconnected cable , FS2020 would resume. Any ideas anyone?
Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and hopefully resolve the issues you’re experiencing with your Quest 3 VR headset:
-
Check USB Connection:
- Ensure the USB-C cable you’re using is capable of high-speed data transfer and is not just a charging cable.
- Try different USB ports on your gaming machine to see if the issue persists.
-
Update Drivers and Software:
- Make sure your Nvidia drivers are up to date.
- Ensure Windows 11 is fully updated.
- Check for the latest Oculus software updates and install them.
-
Adjust Graphics Settings:
- Lower the graphics settings in both the Oculus software and FS2020 to see if this helps stabilize the connection.
- Consider reducing the resolution or frame rate in the Oculus software to ease the load on your GPU.
-
Check for Background Processes:
- Disable any unnecessary background processes or applications that might be interfering with the VR operation.
- Ensure no other software is using the GPU heavily when you are trying to use the VR headset.
-
Oculus Debug Tool:
- Use the Oculus Debug Tool to adjust performance settings. Sometimes tweaking the settings here can resolve display issues.
- Look for any error messages or logs that might give more insight into what’s going wrong.
-
Reinstall Oculus Software:
- As a last resort, try uninstalling and reinstalling the Oculus software to ensure there are no corrupt files causing issues.
-
Contact Support:
- If none of the above steps work, consider reaching out to Oculus support for assistance. They might have additional troubleshooting steps or could help identify if there is a hardware issue with the headset or the cable.
Additionally, you might want to check forums and communities like Reddit or the Oculus forums, where other users might have encountered and solved similar issues.
Do these work for MSFS 2024, as I have the same problem with 2024 but cannot find a VR Tab with an ‘Enable VR’ Option.
MSFS2024 isn’t even out yet, lol! Probably just a typo. To switch from your 2D desktop mode to VR I normally just press ctr+tab on my keyboard.
Thanks for replying. Sorry I meant 40th edition. I can’t get beyond Ctrl & Tab as the same message appears.
