True, but it should be close enough that you could tell if it’s working right or seeing a bunch of jagged edges that aren’t in the monitor view.
Though that wouldn’t be the best method anyway. I can’t believe I forgot to suggest this, but to the question of telling if you are locked into low resolution mode, simply change the resolution in the Quest program or Virtual Desktop. If you try at the lowest resolution, then increase it and compare, you’ll see zero difference between low and maximum resolution if the bug affects you. If it doesn’t affect you, then you should see the visual quality improve as you increase the resolution.
@Mooncatt3953 Good suggestion mate, thanks. If I lower the resolution by moving the meta-link pc app device graphics res slider to lower levels it def lowers the headset res. This is with both my Q3 and QPro using Link or Air Link. So, no issues with my headsets, and I don’t ever intend to enable the battery saver option.
Actually, Meta improved Link and Air Link battery efficiency a couple of updates ago and I do seem to get at least 25-30% more runtimes.
I use the OpenXR toolkit and override resolution to 5200x5200 then use DLSS balanced on my system and it looks and performs great on my Q3/4090/5800X3D.
ResetXPDR, do you use Quest Link or Virtual Desktop? OXRTK doesn’t work with PTC v68 (PC and Q3 both updated) - but OK with VD
Just an update on my end in case anyone here didn’t see it in the main bug thread.
I noticed there was an OS update due on my Q3 the other day. After letting it process, I tried the sim again and playing with the Virtual Desktop resolution settings. I was surprised to see actual differences as I changed them. I’m not sure if it was the update itself, all my resets and not using it for a while (which some reported improvements from), or simply a fluke, but it seems to be working properly now despite no official bug fix being announced.
So now for my turn at finding the best resolution settings. At the moment I’m running Ultra in VD, but I don’t know what that resolution is off hand. The streamer app is reporting 60fps (120Hz) on its overlay, but I catch some black edge flickering if I turn my head too fast. I’ll likely tinker with it some more, like trying Godlike with lower sim graphic settings to smooth out the image more.
System specs are 5800x3d, 7800xt OC’ed, 32 GB 3600MHz, computer on Ethernet, and Q3 connected via Wi-Fi 6.
