Quest2 - Ditching the link cable for Airlink with $40.00 Router

Set the stage:
I711700, 32GB 3200 RAM, 1TB NVME, RTX 3080

The issue:

Quest 2 VR using USB3.2 Link Cable - was the epitome of random - mostly in a bad way… stutters, Oculus Desktop crashes, resolution would go out and stay out on occasion, not a RARE occasion though

I went through the grinder on this one - Reloaded the DT software (both uninstalling and uninstall with “cleaning” per Meta tech) Reloaded the OS and flightsim too, it would work twice, maybe, then the stuttury crashfest would be back. I was at my wits end I was deciding on whether to by a new cable or go wifi 6. I chose wifi 6 and over the past two days MSFS is all new! maybe a stutter once in a great while (have to be paying attention) but I was able to get the framerates (20-30 for PMDG 737-700, 40-50 for the Carenado Mooney M20R with everything on high (clouds ultra) and OTT at 1.6
Three days in and so happy!

If you are at your wits end with Link cable, try this router… (I get no affiliate for this, just a raw link) Amazon.com: TP-Link AC1200 Archer A6 Smart Dual-Band MU-MIMO Wireless Wi-Fi Internet Router (Renewed)

If you have got your wi-fi sorted enough for air link to work, you may want to now try virtual desktop. I have been using it for the past year with my quest 2 and 3090 as it gives me sharper picture than air link and ability to reduce gamma which is very nice in msfs.

I have virtual desktop, I used it before the WiFi was sorted. It worked but the resolution was terrible. I’ll give it a shot, thanks!

For your 30 series card, select HEVC codec in the windows app. In the headset, I like to use Ultra mode (as I favour resolution over frame rate, particularly for glass cockpits) and max bitrate. And as I mentioned reduce the gamma a bit, and sharpness to taste. Good luck !
