Hi, I have a question about RAM speeds and the effect on FPS in MSFS.
My system is a Ryzen 7 5800x with 32GB 2133 CL 13 RAM and an RTX 3070.
Now that the Black Friday offers are running on Amazon, I was wondering whether I should upgrade to 3200 CL 16 RAM for 50€ and whether this might have a positive impact on performance.
I have a nice setup (7800X3D with a 4090) and my FPS are weak (20 on average). I know I have something wrong. Someone commented my ram speed was slow ?? My ram speed is 3600 MHz. I have 32GB DDR5-5600 CL46. I guess if you don’t know what you’re doing (and I don’t) it can be more about settings etc. ???
The lower the CL, the better.
Changing from 13CL to 16CL, even if the speed increases, will remain the same more or less.
If the speed increases, let it be the same CL, at least this way it will gain something safer.
If you manage to stabilize the EXPO profile at 5600 you will see a nice performance improvement but if you have 20 fps now, the problem is elsewhere. No way a 7800X3D can deliver 20 fps coupled with a 4090.
If €50 is not particularly expensive to you, then yes, absolutely upgrade.
Read this:
That seems entirely wrong. Firstly, you may want to open a new thread here to try to eliminate issues caused by demanding too much from your PC with MSFS settings and mods installed.
Additionally, you may wish to check your RAM settings.
You should have enabled XMP or EXPO and set the memory timings that your RAM is designed for in your PC’s bios. If they are not configured correctly, then your PC is running is as if your car’s engine was using the cam belt for a completely different car.
If you are uncomfortable with doing this, you really should seek out professional assistance. You have paid too much to deserve such poor performance from your high-end computer!
Your settings must be really high then or maybe you sim in something like the Fenix in VR?
I have an i5 7600k (oc to 4.6), 48gb RAM and Rtx 2070s (so basically a pretty old system) and in the PMDG 737 I am getting around 60 fps in the sky (maybe more).
On the ground in airports like EGNM I get around 35 to 40 fps maybe as well.
I sim at 1440p with 3 monitors with 3rd party apps running (e.g. P2A, AAO, FSRealistic etc) at mostly high settings.
I’m a PC dummie and I have something wrong. I had a guy build my PC because his son was a gamer (not MSFS). I have to assume he didn’t set everything up properly because I have very few addons and I’m getting max 25 FPS flying over the sea !!! I shelled out the $$ because I had hoped to go VR but my Q2 did not produce near the results I had hoped for so I went with a 34" oled thinking the great resolution would satisfy me but … I may just unplug it and take it a repair shop and tell them to wipe it clean and set everything up properly. Not sure I’m up to taking on such a task (Did I mention I was a dummie??)
No no no Don’t say that man.
I would try some things first.
We are going to try to get more performance out of your PC.
PowerShell (Admin) with this command:
irm christitus.com/win | iex
We go to the Tweaks section and according to our Desktop or Laptop PC and then Run Tweaks and restart the PC.
This will reduce processes by more than half. Thus leaving our CPU more free
Now CMD as administrator Command:
powercfg -duplicatescheme e9a42b02-d5df-448d-aa00-03f14749eb61
(Press enter)
Let’s go to System and Security control panel > Power options and we will see maximum performance unlocked
We chose that option and made sure to change the plan settings in my case everything to never turn off screen and put the computer in sleep state.
Now we go to regedit
We look for this route.
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options
Image File Execution Options
Here right click new password (Sorry, I think the translation would be Key, I don’t know why the translator sometimes…) and put
FlightSimulator.exe
Right click new password and put
PerfOptions
now here right click new DWORD value (32bits) and put
CpuPriorityClass
and we will provide you with information on the value 3
(We restart the PC)
So every time we run MSFS 2020 it will always run at high priority.
You can check in task manager go to details select FlightSimulator.exe
Right click set priority and you will see that it is now always on high.
With this and a couple of other things that we can delve into little by little everything should go great.
I am always flying and at night I leave the Salty 747 flying (Today for example from OMDB-KLAX 16 hours and thank God I no longer remember any CTD or performance drops for a long time)
