Question about SSD & PCIe (MSFS20204)

Hi folks

For MSFS2024

Question: is it better to get for the same level of price a :
1To SSD PCIE 5.0 VS 2To SSD PCIE 4.0

I’m questionning about :
PCIE 4.0 > Samsung 990 evo plus OR Crucial T500
PCIE 5.0 > Crucial T700

I know we can exploit cache to save maps, maybe get 2to is better than PCIE5? I don’t know… and what about Samsung vs Crucial for gaming?

Thanks

Please add the msfs-2020 or msfs-2024 tag to your post, depending on which sim your post is about.

In the three laptops I have (Asus, HP and MSI), the main drives are Samsung M.2. In my second PC, the drive with Windows installed is also a Samsung M.2. So yes, I can recommend Samsung M.2 because I haven’t had issues with them.

M2 drives are so fast that an average user won’t notice any difference in games. I was in the same situation as you - choosing between a M2 Gen 5 or Gen 4 drive as an additional drive. I went with Gen 4 and put the money I saved toward the FCU from Winwing.

Thanks for your answer but my question is not about M2 but about PCIE generation. Is it better (for the same price) to buy 2To PCIE4 (for rolling cache) or 1To PCIE5

Since the majority of the data is streamed for MSFS 2024, you will not notice any difference in speeds between PCIE 4 or 5.

So get the larger pcie4 ssd, and you can have the game, cache and community content all on the same drive.

I repeat, you won’t notice any difference between similiar PCIe NVMe 5.0 (Gen5) and PCIe NVMe 4.0 (Gen4).

Measuring my 2 NVMe M2s speeds, one on motherboard (1 TB) and one I added with PCIe card (2 TB), their speeds are about 2500, 3300, and my SATA SSD speed is 500 Mbps, approximately - I have MSFS 2024 on the PCEi one …
