We are thinking about getting AT&T Fiber Internet when it does become available in our area someday in the future its currently being rolled out in our neighborhood right now we are thinking about getting the 1 gig speed tier once that roll out is complete would that tier likely improve the download speed for really big updates like service updates and world updates just wondering
Moved to #self-service:miscellaneous in absence of a specific forum for Internet performance.
Most speed plans are ‘UPTO’ x amount of bandwidth. They make no guarantee’s that you will actual get those speeds once connected. You might be one of the lucky ones and actually get a gig of bandwidth, or you may end up being one of the ones that dont, its a toss up no matter who you go width provider wise.
My advice would be wait to see if other neighbors get it, and what they think of it…a little patience could save you wasted money and aggravation in the long run.
Well one of my close friends has it and he’s been getting speeds up to 980 something upload and download
Does he play this? if he does and doesnt have any issues then sure go for it. Its always nice to have a fast connection for big downloads. I have 330mbps here and get a fresh install in about 2 hours give or take, but there are also time that my speeds can be abysmal.
Good Luck.
He doesn’t play the game he mainly uses the speed tier for work purposes
Maybe take your rig over there, and run the game off his network and see if its better or worse. Once you leave the ISP’s net you could possibly see speed issues.
He lives in Greenville South Carolina and i live in Watkinsville Georgia
Ah well if he doesnt live on YOUR street, then the test would be worthless anyways. You need to test it against someone on the same street as you. Line quality can be different from location to location even if its the same provider.
There is no easy 100% answer to this question. As mentioned already residential internet is UP TO X Speed. To add to that the speed is to the nearest ISP switch, and is not what you are going to see to random points out on the internet.
How traffic from your ISP routes through the internet is a much larger factor in how fast data from XYZ server will download. The server you connect to also matters. If you have 200Mb connection and your ISP is 3 hops from the CDN that you are getting the files form and there is no traffic congestion, then you can get faster download speeds than someone with 1Gb connection whos ISP is 10 hops from the CDN and goes through 3 links that are heavily congested.
I have it and yes it’s really fast. They even have 2 gig fiber now but not in my area at the moment
Are the downloads noticeably fast in the game itself on your ISP at that tier
Yes and hardly, if any, experience any issues
That’s great to here i can’t wait to get it myself hopefully it will also fix the lagging issues in other online games
For sure, it’s totally worth the upgrade
I have AT&T Fiber with 1G service. I can say my MSFS updates are pretty fast most of the time. If you do get it, make sure you are NOT using wireless and you are connected via Ethernet cable to get the fastest speeds.
Any Ethernet cable type recommendations like cat-6 or above
I like cat 6 here, just make sure all your ethernet cables match cat wise… it can make a difference.
5e and above. I’m running 5e in my house.
Thanks for the advice
