Question for those who own a lot of 3rd Party airports AND Addons_Linker

I use Addons_Linker (a must-have for us PC guys, IMO.) I haven’t purchased a lot of 3rd Party airports, but I do own a handful, and I know some of you own quite a few.

The question is: Do you have presets (or edit a preset) for flying specific aircraft (or type class of aircraft) out of each airport according to your intended flight plan? Or do you load all your airports, scenery, and libraries in every preset, regardless of the aircraft and the flight plan?

For example, I have a bush plane preset. It doesn’t make much sense to load custom KTPA, KMCO, and KMIA if I’m flying around a couple of bush strips in Idaho.

Bottom line, does the sim performance suffer from having custom airports loaded that I’m nowhere near? Or is it only RAM usage and load times that are affected?

for addonlinker i have one folder, wat is ever on,liveries, liberarys and addons for world.
the other i have EU,US,Australia and so on…so only on wat i use…see only loadingtime is longer if i use all…
cheers

I have a fairly extensive collection of add-ons and wouldn’t be able to keep track without Addons Manager. Broken down into Aircraft, Aircraft Utilities, MSFS Utilities, Scenery Utilities and World Scenery, all with relevant sub-folders. World Scenery is obviously the largest and is broken further down into countries/airports/scenery. All my airports include the ICAO identifier in the name for easier identification. Sad isn’t it! :face_with_spiral_eyes:

I use Presets, usually by aircraft registration, although I do have a couple I use for maintenance purposes, as I tend to fly trips and this helps me save details for continuation purposes.

As for performance benefits, I don’t really notice, but I know load times do increase (by microseconds!) if there is a lot to load. I once tried to start up the SIM with ALL my add-ons selected (1.3TB) and wondered why it was taking so long…!

I like to keep my community folder in its “purest” state so I can rename it during mandatory updates. So I do not have Addon Linker. It is a rather substantial collection of third party airports, aircraft & liveries but I keep track of everything with a complex spreadsheet of my own making that I can cross-reference any parameter I set. Sim Load times are on the long-side (about 4min 49sec) but there is virtually no impact on overall performance.

I do have Addon Linker and have build quite many presets (EU, UK, Japan, NZ, Alaska, Canada etc). I also have a preset for one time only freeware airports. I activate only the ones I need.

And this works great ( at least for me). For updates I have an empty Community folde (COnnumity000 which I rename as Community when needed).

only rename the folder for update,fs create a new one, this i delite and rename back

As for @Terrylawdinn, I have not seen any noticeable difference with number of airport addons.
I have over 300 sceneries within MSFSAddons, the greatest number being free ones. The long load times of MSFS means that addon load times are relatively insignificant.

I have never tried any presets with addon linker, but just today I was doing some tests with start time for the sim and noticed that the sim by default takes 2 minutes 25 seconds to load without any addons. With 113 addons enabled it takes 3 minutes 58 seconds. I also cleared the scenery indexes each time, ran the sim once without addons to rebuild the indexes then ran a second time to test the time. Did the same with addons enabled. I am not sure about even using the preset function in addon linker for the simple fact of how scenery indexes can affect the sim scenery and I am pretty sure the index data gets loaded regardless of whether the addons enabled or not. So, I just leave all my addons enabled and suffer the loading time.
