If it’s raining and you’ve got the canopy open and are wondering why you’re getting wet then I put it to you that I’m on a forum warning so insert your own comment here.
Sometimes you just have to Bite Your Tongue, and move on
Changing from DP to HDMI enables rain? lol this is a good one. Really a great joke. How people even come to such conclusion? This claim is ridiculous. I understand that some housewive could believe that but if anyone has at least the slightest understanding about software/hardware knows that’s ridiculous.
Guys it’s just a bug, sometimes it works, sometimes not. Sometimes rain is heavier sometimes there’s only a light rain. It has nothing to do with cables, they can’t affect your graphical settings. Even more ridiculous is that DP has higher bandwidth. It can affect the resolution and refresh rate but that’s it.
Just to explain to people who believe that this is true: It’s GPU what’s making all that pretty graphics happen not a cable.
Well it is a good joke indeed but as dumb as it is, this trick actually works for some people. Nobody claims it’s the cable itself but it might be drivers related, like how the signal is sent through either HDMI or DP. It might also be hardware related and only affect some DP on specific graphic cards, hell, I don’t know…
I used to see rain last August and in early September but I’ve never seen proper rain myself ingame in the last 2 months of playing nearly every day, the issue seem to have started with patch 1.8.3. on my side. No rain even when setting the weather to heavy rain manually, even when flying purposively through rain shafts, through huge rainstorms and hurricanes ! I’ve tried everything to get rain and nothing works… All I see very rarely is barely perceptible transparent droplets on the windshield, no drops from external view, the ground is never wet, nothing looks like what I used to see a few month ago or to what I see in others videos. It’s like if the rain effects opacity was set to 99% transparent.
Unfortunately I don’t have any HDMI cable at hand so I can’t test the trick myself, but I would very much like this issue to be resolved.
The rain we have is exactly like the rain advertised…it depends on the lighting and whether you have sun hitting on your screen…I usually struggle to see it but yesterday in a flight I could see it and it was great…
Stop finding flaws where there are none…
Rumor has it that changing from DP to HDMI also allows the sim to run in DX12.
It may be that their PC (laptop) has effectively 2 video processors, and one is defaulting to the HDMI, and the other the DV
This is the case with my Nitro 5 laptop. and a incorrect selection could well account for the difference in ability to process the rain effects.
eg
My Laptop has both:-
Intel UHD Graphics 630
and
Nvidea GeForce GTX 1650
Neither that great for games like MSFS, but “adequate” – with each GPU having quite different specs & performances,
Absolutely.
And believe me, I have really tried to knock this one on the head.
DP HDMI
The very act of removing a cable connector may be just cleaning the contacts, I thought the gpu sent the same data, so it’s either a dodgy cable or oxidised contacts. Long time IT/cybersecurity assessor.
Yes, and rumour has it that sheep’s bladders may be employed to prevent earthquakes.
Please!
But if there are 2 Different GPUs, with differing features, then the Video from each will be different.
I don’t like to fly in the rain in real life and don’t like it in a simulator. So, I don’t care that it doesn’t work in MSFS. But it does, and with the video card connected to the monitor through a KVM switch with DVI cable connectors. Also noticed that the rain passes through the C172 wings onto the side windows while sitting on the ground.
It’s called placebo.
That didn’t work for me. But i work in IT for 69 years and am very smart so i’ve tried to change to DVI cable and magic happened - DX12 enabled now. 190fps on ultra settings. But it only works on gold plated cable. Gold transfers more graphics.
Sarcasm is a concept you dont understand I assume.
Please lets stay on topic and treat fellow forum members with dignity and respect.
You echo my exact thoughts. I cannot imagine how changing of a display connector would some how change how a GPU renders an API already baked in to the driver.
I don’t know either. I’ve complained about the invisible rain on various threads on here for the last 6 weeks. It worked on release. It stopped working with the first patch. No changing of settings made any difference.
Now I have rain. It makes no sense. Like none. At all. But it worked for me.
Ah. at face value, right off the page, easily missed.
However if sarcasm was you’re intent, please forgive me!
Hey - if it works, it works - right? I’m not doubting your success, just puzzled.
