Game will freeze up for 10 - 30 seconds. I cannot do anything while this happens. I am able to alt-tab or press the Start menu, but that doesn’t unfreeze the game.
I have a 90 GB rolling cache on SSD
Hard wired SSD
Bluetooth keyboard and mouse
The only devices connected by USB are Logitech Yoke, Logitech Rudder, Logitech Throttle Quadrant
Provide Screenshot(s)/video(s) of the issue encountered:
BT issues comes more from Windows. There are threads, and some usere report to disable BT former… what is in your case just not possible. But we also not sure whether this is the issue in your case.
I want repeat: Do NOT set a 90Gig Cache size. It is useless and these amount of Cache is worst for performance.
Also,… have you already set the game folder (and the cache folder) onto the exclusion list of your antivir ?
Otherwise… dont know… Possible try network relevant setting, e.g disbale these multiplayer and AI Traffic for a test.
PS: we not know somewhat about your system, so we can only made guesses.
I have that issue with freezes of 15-30 secs every 7-10 minutes. I suspect it is my internet broadband being strangled, that is, not enough bandwidth to update the sim as it requires.
Although I have unlimited “high speed” broadband via cable, that is a joke here in Australia and extremely variable.
From what I have read - USB issues, Rolling Cache and internet connectivity have been described as root cause. Unfortunately, MS has not addressed any of this with guidance or troubleshooting steps.
All of this is with the assumption that you have a hardware that is required to run the sim.
Is the whole game freezing? I have had issues with the USB Controllers freezing, I believe this is caused by opening ATC, VFR Map or other popup windows on a second monitor
I get this more or less every session I fly. Can’t see any pattern - I typically notice my Track-ir isn’t responding and then I know it’s frozen. Sound keeps playing and I can switch to my other screen and work normally but CPU load is about 10% and GPU is near as dammit nothing. The pause lasts anywhere from 10 to 50 seconds then just goes away and I return where I was except that nay multiplayer a/c are gone. They will pop back in within 10 seconds or so. VERY frustrating.
I am getting similar problem, Same sort of dificulties. Will reduce cache as suggested.
I DECIDED TO CONFIRM PROBLEM HERE AS I DON’T LIKE THE WAY THE SUBJECT IS CLOSED AFTER 30 DAYS AFTER THE LAST REPLY. THIS NOW KEEPS IT OPEN FOR ANOTHER 30 DAYS.
Time set to 12:00 noon precisely (as a common baseline)
Date was set to January 29 2021, not sure if it matters
Steps to reproduce:
During flight:
Use either the external camera or cockpit camera to look around in different directions (not sure if this matters)
Take off from runway 16, proceed heading 160, climb to 2500-3000 ft. altitude
Proceed 160 until downtown Melbourne is directly 90
Head 90 until over downtown Melbourne
Proceed 90 for about 3 minutes real time
Turn around to head 270 and fly back over downtown Melbourne
At this point the sim should be freezing intermittently, from ~0.5 seconds up to 5 seconds or worse. Seems to start with a few spikes then gets worse until it’s unplayable.
Interesting facts:
Both system RAM and VRAM have plenty of headroom during flight, not even close to being fully utilized.
Only personally noticed this issue from YMML using the steps above but may very well exist elsewhere.
During normal flight during testing overall CPU usage percent is generally about 35% +/- a few percent. When the freezing spikes happen the overall CPU usage percent drops to about 15%.
While the graphics are frozen on-screen and the controls unresponsive the audio continues to play normally.
Changing window focus to some other application or the Windows Start Menu does not help.
One logical/physical CPU core is normally running higher than the rest (as usual) but when the freezes happen that particular core’s usage drops to virtually nothing. Another one or more cores will simultaneously spike in usage.
I have been suffering from constant freezing where I’d be flying along and suddenly the updates onscreen would stop but sounds continued. It would stay in that state for between 5-50 seconds. REALLY irritating but having not seen any solutions I kind of ignored it.
On Friday I got my Logitech multi-panel and found that it was working more or less as expected, except that now when I had a freeze, on return the flaps would be set full down and airbrake on which was not just irritating but sometimes fatal on approach. In addition I found the AP on FBW 320 was totally flakey - would suddenly go off track and not recover.
I was about to rage-quit but noticed a possible correlation with the micro freezes that I see when reconnecting my xbox controller which drops out (by design) - I saw the panel issues.
Now, the panel is not natively supported in the sim - it’s a “stealth” driver from Logitech. I also know from experience with USB drives on Linux that ANY change is any USB device status appears to potentially trigger a re-allocation of other ports also, so I wondered if this was the trigger.
So - this morning I removed my bluetooth dongle and mouse, and connected the xbox controller with a cable. I then re-flew my EGNT-EGLL route which I’ve not managed correctly for the past 2 days. ZERO freezes and both panel and AP in the 320NX behaved perfectly getting me down to 500’ AGL.
So - one flight doesn’t prove anything, but I am hopeful. If it reverts I’ll update here.
I’m in Sydney and have been getting the same since the last update (or so). I get two few second pauses one after another. It’s the downloading of scenery that’s doing it , I think. When I manually cached an area (Sydney) the pauses stopped.
