Random Performance Drop with RTX 4090

I have recently upgraded my PC and have come across a bizarre problem which I can’t seem to find on the forums anywhere.

The game will start of great with FPS high and performance as you would expect. Then randomly out of nowhere it will start micro stuttering and this is reflected in the FPS counter. It shows a purple vertical line on the counter at the exact same interval and the counter will flash between Green and Red. It happens completely randomly and sometimes doesn’t even happen at all. You can hear the GPU fans stuttering at the same intervals as well - really odd.

Any help or ideas would be massively appreciated as it is spoiling the enjoyment of the game.

My PC Specs are:

i9 14900K
64GB 5600mhz DDR5 RAM
Gigabyte OC RTX 4090

Sorry to hear your performance is not doing well  ! The first thing I would recommend is to review any recent changes to your PC (new app install, new monitoring tool etc) outside the sim as it could be some other program chewing on your cpu which is impacting your sim. I would also try emptying your community folder and take a few flights to see if the same thing happens. If not, just insert each add-on one at a time to isolate the culprit.

Good luck and happy flying!

I think this might be what they addressed in the recently dev video. If it’s the same… it’s a memory issue where the memory is being allocated in a very slow way. They’re looking into a fix.

You can see the frametime graph on the GPU is completely flat during the spikes, which means your mainthread is the one causing the microstutters. This has nothing to do with your GPU.

Are you using rolling cache?

Sounds like very similar to what I had the other day. I forgot that I tried running with rolling cache on again (on ramdisk)… bad idea. Deleted it and turned it off and the regular hitch was gone.

So would this be a CPU or possibly a memory issue then? I’m not great on hardware stuff.

Yes I’m using the rolling cache…I will turn it off, delete it and give that a go. I’ll get back to you once I’ve tried it and see if that’s the culprit. Fingers crossed it is because it’s driving me mad.

Delete first, apply and save, then turn off, apply and save again
