I was shocked when driving in ‘Southern’ Australia near Swan HIll… not far from where they filmed Mad Max (all of them), was Lake Boga that turns out to have been a major base for Catalina’s.
Annoyingly, usually late for appointments, I have only been able to drive past. That said I stopped once to take some footage of massive flocks of birds at sunrise… something that might not have been so great when trying to takeoff/land
oh dear… they have one. It looks like I might need to take a drive. I didn’t realise they had one there… and if that badge on their sight means it was flying up to 2017… I need to have some serious words with myself for not stopping, since I passed this about 5 times a year… BEFORE 2017

note- it claims to be the major attraction for the area, which is not saying much… there is bugger all round those parts. Kerang is noteworthy cause if you blink, you miss it. I literally did, and had to do a U-bolt after passing it! Swan Hill though…

I’ve got a thing for flying boats - symbols of a lost, bygone era. I’ve never seen one in real life, let alone been in one, but to me, there’s something almost romantic about them. The Catalina’s have always been a favourite, although being British I also like the Short Sunderland Mk V - nostalgia for Imperial Airways (what a fine addition to MSFS 2020 that would be!). Alas, all history now. Glad you enjoyed the pics.
