Rare Air

I took the steam 172 from Zurich to Sion earlier today in real time/weather. 500 FPM until 8,000’, then step climbing to maintain energy up to 12,000’. I still had to adjust my heading a couple of times to avoid peaks that were higher than I was. I got lucky with the weather so that I could see the difference between water droplets and granite! Once past the Alps and over the valley, it wasn’t long before I had the ILS, so even if I’d used the TBM to get higher, getting into Sion still would have been “interesting!”
