Add ray tracing global Illumination (RTGI) support so we could select it from in game setting.
RTGI adds fully dynamic, realistic and immersive ray traced lighting to video games and will make MSFS more beautiful that ever!
I think this would be coming in MSFS 2024 along with RT shadows and reflections.
I want it! It’ll make a great difference! More games should support RTGI.
Hello.
Make sure to vote!
2014 was announced with all new lighting system and full ray tracing. Affecting all aspects of sim. Topic closed. Enjoy
Any links you can share regarding this announcement?
Is there a source for that by any chance? I’ve never heard of that announcement, would be nice!
Go watch FSExpo videos on YouTube. Seb talks about the ray tracing in cockpits and how it plays into the color of the sky. Spectacular. . Possible fps killer… Will have to see. Dlss for sure needed.
FYI, This is the segment of the interview where Seb discusses ray tracing. @SprungNickel427, please correct me if it is the wrong interview…
Any news on reflections? They’re still talking about only shadows in that video.
Thank you for finding this. Was on mobile etc …
Hello. Do you mean all RT techniques (including reflections, AO, GI, sun shadows, etc) or a specific RT technique?
Well @SprungNickel427 , i want RT for global illumination too and not just shadows.
the op mentioned this, and i think it is absolutely crucial, if technically feasible
Those words were not said so not sure, but it sounded full hog RT. That might be too brutal on fps so not sure
You can check comparisons in YT .
I have a feeling it’s only shadows, at least initially. And that makes sense because that will get the most benefit. Shadows are the weakest link in the 2020 lighting system. Reflections are the next order of priority, it would be good if they can implement that so that reflections don’t have occlusion artefacts, a telltale sign of SSR currently in use. Although i don’t tend to notice it as much as the flickery or sometimes nonexistent shadows.
GI and AO can come after that in priority. It’s somehow linked with shadows, but it is supposed work on a more per object basis instead of only light sources, raytraced GI benefits most when games have lot of bright and dark areas mixed together. One can argue msfs cockpit is similar, and yes, it will benefit from RTGI/RTAO, but compared to the other two effects, the impact may be less noticeable. Besides with proper baked ambient occlusion maps, the impact of RTGI/RTAO will be even lower. Other than the cockpit, there aren’t many areas in msfs where RTGI will be crucial. If it was a cave/tunnel/building interior dwelling game with dynamic lighting, RTGI should have been first in priority. Like metro exodus enhanced, cyberpunk 2077, Alan Wake 2 etc.
Besides, this needs to run on Xbox series X/S, I think they will enable a single rt effect (shadows, most impactful), and for pc, they will have higher quality options. I don’t think they can afford to add multiple effects on xbox, and I also don’t think they will implement any pc exclusive feature. Being a 4090 owner, hopefully I am wrong on the last remark though.
Edit: Although, in night lighting inside cockpit, RTGI will be pretty impactful too. Typically developers tend to consider only sun and moon shadows for raytraced shadows, so in night cockpit lighting, RTGI may bring a lot more of the scene to life.
fair observation… although I would like to have an RT on/off setting on the clouds so we finally won’t have any more pixelated clouds at the edges…
Well, it doesn’t need to. There are lots of PC graphics options that aren’t available on Xbox.

nod we’ll see, I’m looking forward to whatever we get
In msfs, afaik, there are not any pc exclusive graphics features, yes those settings are not exposed in xbox, but they are all there. Typically i haven’t seen much Microsoft published game having PC exclusive graphics features.
