Unfortunately they’re still catering to the newbie pilots. Case in point - their plans for implementing the turbulence UI “slider,” or whatever you want to call it.
I get it, but I also don’t get it. I get it they don’t want to discourage new sim pilots, but if you’re flying in LIVE WEATHER, why should us simmers use some kind of UI to make the weather realistic?
Isn’t it better to just thoroughly explain to the new pilots that weather gets very dangerous sometimes? Instead we’re all limited all the time.
Still salty about Jorg’s statement: “Sim for simmers.”
MSFS is currently compareable to a boat simulator, in which they simulate the waves only to a small size, which makes the open ocean to a calm lake everywhere
Good example Small waves can be really dangerous if using a really small boat with really low mass. Same with aircraft in the sky. Both are fluids except we can’t see the air.
I would like some “Dynamic” weather. I don’t care about LIVE weather and now that it has this METAR rammed into it, I care even less about it being LIVE. But there is no option for Dynamic except when you use Live. All the presets are exactly that… the same from start of flight to end of flight.
How about some dynamism to presets. That way I can get rid of my METAR bubbles. eg Clear tending to rain.
After watching the latest Q&A, they confirmed with SU12 the vertical wind limitations are gone!
Which means thermals, up and down drafts can reach real world numbers, for example over 9000 fpm in big storms / cumulonimbus clouds!
Also there will be an option to manage the turbulence (realistic, medium, low)
which doesn’t remove wind, gust or thermals.
Super excited to see if this brings the missing level of realism into the sim and you finally can’t fly through any weather situation without consequences when choosing realistic.
They got a small changelog on HeliSimmer.com from Microsoft for Sim Update 12.
There they are also mentioning turbulence:
‘‘At a realistic setting, turbulence is fully modeled, and the air will be very rough in some weather conditions.’’
I really hope to see small planes like the Cessna 172 getting thrown around when you find yourself in a storm or while flying through the wrong cloud! Just imagine flying a route and seeing clouds / weather you actually have to avoid just like in real life!
It would finally add some badly needed realistic thrill into the simulation.
Yessss! Exactly as it goes in real life! It’s going to be very good souvenirs from my vfr flight experiences, can’t wait to considere the weather with the due respect and to pay attention to CB/TS outside through the windows!
Thats great news, have they mentioned icing? Because right now Icing have very small effect on aircraft and it is impossible to stall the aircraft due to the ecessive icing.
