Really REALLY bad frames all of a sudden

but it shouldn’t be about dropping the settings and degrading quality with each update.

at this pace I’ll be playing low with the same fps next year.

After SU7 my fps dropped by 50% all across the board. I had it set for 30 fps, and I ended up with 15. Every time I started the sim, it started at 30 while the first animated credits are running, and then when the Pilatus Porter graphic is up, it dropped to 15 and stayed there throughout, no matter what or where I was flying at the moment. And with either DC11 or DC12, it still stayed at 15.

After a lot of head scratching, I discovered that I could get 30fps - by setting the graphics to 60fps! So that is where things stand now - locked on 60fps to get 30. No other ideas came out of a 1.5 hour session with support at the computer maker! Serious problem here…

Oh, and DX12 screws up the add-on planes too - crashes to desktop. As we say in the old country - ‘tanks fer nootin’!

On Series S, specially on autogen-heavy cities, the drop in frames is very noticeable after last Sim Update

With some experimentation and the recommendation of another thread with the same issue, I’ve resolved most of the problem. If you turn the terrain pre-caching to ultra then that eliminates stutters in the air for me. However, this seems to be mostly a ground problem. At about 200ft AGL and below, it starts to stutter but not as bad. Interestingly, DX12 seems to benefit the most from terrain pre-caching even in very dense city areas as long as you’re above about 200ft AGL.

Yep, I was having major issues flying over New York city, with severe visual and audio stuttering. Then, at the end of my rope, I set Terrain Pre-caching to Ultra, and it basically fixed all of my problems.

My specs:

UserBenchmarks: Game 17%, Desk 52%, Work 14%

HDD: HGST Travelstar 7K1000 2.5" 1TB - 59%
RAM: Hynix HMA81GS6CJR8N-VK 2x8GB - 60.3%

Hi Rick, sorry for the very late reply but I thought i’d wait for the next world update and stick top DCS for now! Does suck if thats the only option as i just became a dad and started a degree and i work full time using my PC. So a reinstall of windows isnt just an afternoon for me it might be about a month before i get all my work, Uni and Flight sim back… I’ll contact the team just in case there has been any development but if it is unfixable looks like MSFS will forever be a dead expensive weight for me. Quite annoyed to be honest!

As it was pointed out in the first reply to your thread since your FPS on the ground goes down to single digits it seems that the only possible solution as of now is to do a full reinstall of windows and try again.

In your case since the FPS on the ground goes down to approximately half (not single digits) removing certain 3D photogrammetry cities (all of them except USA and Nordics) can potentially bring your performance back in the US with photogrammetry on as explained in this thread:

This allows me to enjoy this sim when I am not wanting to fly fighter jets in DCS.

Hi, Vernibob, I have most of my work files on Drobox etc. so it made the reinstall much easier than I anticipated. I committed to the reinstall decision and went for it. Windows is much easier with the “Reset this PC” built in function which also keeps your personal files. Now currently running windows 11. I think it took about 1-2 hrs. tops. The good news is that it fixed MSFS instantly.

@CaseBug92496684 since you seem to have fixed your performance issue… would you have time to test if removing the 3D photogrammetry cities changes your performance? I could tell you exactly how to test it. We are just curious to see if the issues we are having are more widespread than we initially thought.

For many of us the issue is consistent and very easy to reproduce as seen in this thread:

Thank you, my work is sensitive and I have to use my organisations apps so its not just files its dealing with my organisation systems and booking time off ti do it haha. but i do use google drive for Uni so thank you.

I can tell you that my performance before WU6 was terrific. After installing I had single digit framerates on runways when taking off and panning around, essentially unplayable. Switching off photogrammetry resolved the issue immediately. Attempted everything to fix it, read every thread, nothing worked. Finally reinstalled Windows after hearing the success of other users and it instantly fixed the photogrammetry issue. Since then, I have read many users having the same success.

You are right absolutely right. In the thread I linked we identified two performance issues:

One regarding single digit FPS on the ground with photogrammetry on. This one can only be fixed with a full windows reinstall like you did.

Two is a performance hit due to 3D photogrammetry city objects. The symptom is similar but the FPS isn’t in the single digits. The fps is half the fps compared to photogrammetry off on the ground and it is not fixable by reinstalling windows. Basically since you fixed the first one… I was wondering if you could do a test to see if the 3D photogrammetry city objects affect your performance in any way with a specific test on the ground.

If you have time… could you test your peformance on the runway of JFK with Terrain LOD 300 or more (needs to be main thread limited) with your current setup. Then delete the 3D photogrammetry city objects from the world updates and GOTY except USA and Nordics. Restart the sim (very important) and try the same scenario again? For many of us removing those 3D cities even though they are nowhere near the USA it improves CPU performance dramatically so it would be nice to see if someone with good performance can see any changes at all.

Yes, I will test it out later this week when I am back in town…

Thank you! Really appreciate it.
