I think the choice is quite limited on Xbox and don’t want to spend a fortune, I find using the xbox controller fine in general, but am really keen to try a flight stick, my budget is max £100.
I have narrowed it down to the Hotas One and Turtle beach Velocity One flight stick. The latter interests me the most as it looks a little more premium, does anyone use the velocity one with xbox, how do you find it, i’m talking about the stick here, not the full yoke and throttle quadrant, thats like £350 I think.
Hi. I have the Velocity One Yoke and picked up the Velocity One Stick for times when I fancied a quick FS2020 session (screens shared with work computer so a bit of a faff setting the yoke up for 15 mins flying).
I think the Velocity Flight stick is of great quality, and would recommend. The downsides for me were:
Too stiff (for my liking - others may disagree). Maybe improved if screwed down.
Lack of buttons (no doubt more noticeable with being used to the yoke).
Some of the buttons you activate with your thumb are too small/close together / sensitive so accidental presses are common.
Sold the stick in the end (for reasons above) and now use the xbox controller plus a mouse instead, which I prefer to the stick when not got the yoke setup.
I’ve also had the Hotas One which I didn’t like at all - in particular the very sloppy throttle. Not keen on the styling either, but that’s a personal taste of course.
So in summary. Get the Velocity flight stick if “sticks” are your thing.
Thanks, I’ve ordered the velocity one, see how I find it, I find the Xbox pad ok, but keen to try a flight stick.
Just trying to work out the mapping now for when I get it, can the small levers be used for multiple things, for example can the right lever be used for both mixture and flaps or rpm with the flick of a switch. Or is it one or the other?
The V1 stick is great!
You can use switch button to map more button but you can not use switch with the levers or only in one way. Actually if you choose to select one entry, you can select only one button/ever and if you detect your entry, you can have switches but it will detect only the +axis not the -. So it is not usable in such way.
If you want something inexpensive I love the Hotas One that I have had for about a year. The only thing I didn’t like was the throttle that has no resistance but thanks to YouTube ( as always… ) I have found a great solution in simply sticking two patches of velcro on each side of throttle rotating base ( rough side of velcro patches not the soft one ). That works like a treat and love my Hotas.
