I’m not good at optimizing my game. The default optimized settings by Nvidia Geforce Experience App is just terrible.
This is my setup:
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D
GPU: Nvidia RTX 3080
RAM: 32 GB at 3000MHz
Monitor is 2560x1440 at 165Hz

I’m not at my flight sim computer right now, but when you’re on your graphics settings page, there is a “button” at the bottom of the screen that says something like set to defaults. Click on that and you will see a pretty much top settings setup for your system. You might have to turn down some settings, but it will be pretty close to what your system is capable of.
EDIT: The “button” is “Reset to defaults”. It will come much closer to being optimized settings than GE Force will do. GE Force just dumbs it down unless you go through a convoluted process.
I have found that many settings (Buildings) do little or nothing above Medium, while some (Clouds) have a dramatic effect on visuals. I’m going to link a video at the bottom, but first, here are my specs and settings:
Game rig:
Thermaltake H570 TG Tower
X670 Aorus Elite AX motherboard
AMD Ryzen 9 7900X 12-Core Processor
NZXT Kraken X Cooler
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070

750 Watt PS
Settings are an eclectic mix:

There’s not a huge difference between your setup and mine. I get around 30 FPS even with the heaviest loads (in the Kodiak with the backup instrument on (frame hog by itself) and lots of clouds. My CPU is higher-end than yours, but your graphics card is a couple of steps up from mine. My guess is that you’ll end up with similar performance, or maybe a little better. I’ve noticed very little CPU load when my sim is running.
As for that video… Get yourself a pen, paper, and your beverage of choice. This is a long one. It’s also a little old - it came out right after the initial launch of the sim, so there have been some settings added to the sim that aren’t covered here. Take note of what does and doesn’t make a huge impact on visuals. Stuff that doesn’t make that much of a difference can be de-tuned to save resources for the things that make a bigger difference.
Thanks a lot bro! ![]()
Why are you using GeForce Experience? It’s known to have a lot of unwanted overhead in MSFS. Use the driver option only. Also, you don’t need the most current driver. I have a RTX 3080 and use the 522 drivers and attain 35-45 in PMDG and FBW with DX12 + TLAA. Are you using XMP on your RAM? YouTube or Google that. Q8Pilot did an excellent video on what each graphic setting did and its cost. Just a guide to get you going as everyones system is different. It takes some work, but you can get there.
