I have been using GeForce Experience video recording tool for about two years and I have been quite satisfied with it.
However, with the recent update, the recording tool has stopped working. It launches the tool and when Start Recording is pressed, a green dot in the bottom right corner appears with a red line striking through it. The tool says it’s recording video but the green dot with the red strike-through depicts it isn’t.
When I stop recording the video and go to the assigned folder, it has nothing in it.
Has anyone else experienced this? How to fix it?
I have tried everything I could to fix it but to no avail.
I tried the Game Bar recording but it’s choppy and terrible.
So, I need help with the GeForce Experience video tool.
I’d definitely switch to OBS studio and its free.

I had a similar issue to the OP, with GE not recording. I think it happened because I accidentally clicked on a pop up to update my drivers, and I aborted it part way through. The GPU driver survived, GE did not. A re-install of the same version didn’t fix it, but a pass of DDU, then a re-install did fix it.
My issue was slightly different in that the overlay didn’t even work, let alone the recording feature.
I second the recommendation to use OBS Studio – you have much more control over your frame rate, picture quality and resolution, and it’ll keep working if you ever switch to an AMD card one day.
(That’s what happened to me to kick me off the GeForce widget.)
It’s free & open source, and also available cross-platform if you find yourself with other recording/streaming needs on a Mac or Linux machine.

If you are using the new tools, are your tools up to date?
Yes, sir. Everything is up to date.
I will give it a go. Thank you for the recommendation.

Until it refuses to save a video or crashes when you press START RECORDING. Every time I wake up PC from sleep OSB starts behaving erratically. I need to remember to close OSB before putting PC to sleep.
Run dism, scannow etc. and reinstall OBS. for MSFS it’s always best to record on a drive not populated by your packages
Will you please share your settings on the OBS Studio?
I have installed OBS Studio.
The best recording option I am getting is 1080p!
I would have preferred 1440p or 4K.
Will everyone be so kind as to share their settings?
I intend to only record videos without any commentary. But I can’t see an option to turn the mic off.
I use a very simple set up, it records sound however my mic is disabled in Windows so only the sim is heard. Change (type in) resolution to suit, resize the preview window and (especially for 4k) do not record to the same drive as your MSFS packages. For Youtube .mp4 is usually fastest but .mkv is ok too.
PS. more audio settings found at the bottom (audio mixer) untick the tracks you don’t want

My recordings with OBS are at:
3840x2160 canvas
60 fps
Rec.2020 color space (10-bit HDR)
HEVC codec (amd accelerated) at 85 Mbps
You can simply remove the mic source if you don’t want it.

I need exactly that… and for the life of me, I can’t put those settings in OBS!
You may want to look up the documentation or a tutorial if you’re not finding the bits you need in the user interface.
Yes, sure. Thank you. Didn’t find the time to do so. I thought it would be easy to set up.
