It’s good to be able to free up hard drive space where possible and so delete unnecessary packages through the content manager.
When in content manager and with ‘installed’ selected, it says total disk space used is 112gb. Presumably this excludes the 83gb core content package, because in windows explorer the ‘official’ folder is 194gb?
Also, I can understand having to keep at least one default plane installed, e.g. the Cessna 152, but it seems there are several that cannot be uninstalled, including the 172, the 930, and some useless reno files for a P51 etc that we don’t have access to. I know it’s only a couple of GB but it would be nice to have the option to be able to uninstall these packages.
In the past I found that the official folder contained a duplicate set of the whole sim. I just moved that to an external D drive. Freed up about 80GB on my C drive. And yesterday I managed to trim another 20GB off the MSFS40 download, stuff I’m not interested in right now.
That’s interesting because after yesterday’s update I noticed a little glitch where content manager was listing all the installed packages twice, but that’s gone today. I’ve checked through the official folder and can’t see any duplicates. It’s on my d: drive already. I also tried manually removing some folders earlier (172, 930, reno) and rebooted, but it just wanted to download them again, or at least some of them.
You can only remove Asobo airports and POIs without the sim looking for them again when it loads. With the sim not running, copy and paste those folders to the other location you’ll be using, then load the sim and uninstall them in Content Manager. This will add an appendix to those filenames and stops the sim prompting you to download them.
