Reinstallation advice

Has anyone done a complete reinstall of FS2020?

Do all your settings and control configurations get carried over to the new installation?

How about your pilot flying hours logbook?

What’s the best way to delete the old install? Win/Settings/Apps or something else?

Cheers

I do that a lot actually. Apps is the way to remove it. When you install it the profiles you have set for a aircraft remain the same. It also remembers what options you have installed and which ones you do not in the content manager. I think the 3rd party packages have to be reinstalled. I do not use the log book and never will so not sure about that one.

To reinstall you have to start with the MS store. When I see the Play button, I minimize the Store and look for the MSFS 2020 in the windows start and run it there, but you can just click play and it does the same thing. I do not have anything in the community other than 3rd party airports so back that folder up so you know what was in there. I just copy it to a passbook or my download folder. Anything that was there needs to be put back.

After reinstall my bush trip progress is gone. All now start from flight no. 1.

Hi @SIedDriver,
have you seen the Installation Guides?

There are two guides on clean installs of MSFS:
One for the Microsoft Store version.
One for the Steam version.

Note: We have moved your topic into #community:general-discussion-feedback,
since the topic is about asking for advice, rather than reporting a specific bug.

Hope the links helped.

Yes I have seen that. But you need to read my question again.

The very thing I don’t want is a ‘clean install’.

I want a ‘refresh’ install, where I delete the entire sim from my system, then reinstall, but keep all the settings, achievements, logbook etc I had previously.

Can that be done?

is there a way to delete completely all?
restart like you never played

Yes.

Go to

c:\Users\YourUserName\AppData\Local\Packages\

and backup folder named

Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe

Bush trip save location (ms store ver)

C:\Users\YourUserName\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalState\MISSIONS\ACTIVITIES\

Game settings

c:\Users\YourUserName\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache
File named: FlightSimulator.CFG and UserCfg.opt

Controls settings

c:\Users\YourUserName\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\SystemAppData\wgs\

Many thanks to everybody for all this info.

I haven’t done an install since I first had the sim in alpha test over a year ago. But now I have a CTD problem where even with no addons in the sim, it always crashes after 2-3 hours - quite repeatable - so I think the time for a refresh is here.

I’m going to wait and see if Tuesday’s big update fixes it, but if not I will do the reinstall.

BTW, my machine is otherwise rock solid, including running some other major apps for many hours.

Regards,

I’d be interested to know if anyone that has done a clean reinstall has rectified the CTD issues?

I would have though that if you were suspecting some form of data corruption on your PC you would need to conduct a forensic cleanout of every trace of the original build? That said I wonder what effect the persistent cloud save has on that?

Currently I have a ticket in progress that actually seems to see some movement at Zendesk in that they have asked for an MSINFO file to plough through so I’m going to let them work through that process before I consider reinstalling.

I am interested to know the success rate of reinstalling the software and just how much effort people went to beyond just pressing “Uninstall”.
