Discovery flights - Unique places - Part 1
This first part is the beginning of a series of discovery flights; more will follow.
Google Earth users are constantly coming across remarkable and unique things while exploring the earth’s surface that are not always visible from the ground. I was always fascinated by these discoveries and then I climbed into the simulator cockpit to take a closer look at these things. Most of them are man-made and sometimes nature-made. Since it is hardly possible to travel to all these places, a few of these discoveries led to the wildest speculations in various forums and other social media. Why were they created and for what purpose? Are there actually extraterrestrial life forms that want to make contact with us through them? Whatever the outcome of these comments, there is always a hint of science fiction novels about them. I’ve done a lot of research to find out what’s behind these geoglyphs, which are usually only visible from a great height. I completely steer clear of speculation, which is often much more exciting to read than what science or the creators of the geoglyphs themselves have to say. In most cases it is quite sobering to learn the “truth”, but that doesn’t really matter. Truth is always what I believe to be true. Someone can tell me what they want. So - see for yourself and form your own opinion of what you see.
But that is only one aspect of the “Unique Places”. You will be able to see other fascinating images on our earth’s surface during these discovery flights, such as works of art - some created by human hands with a very specific message, others created by nature, to which some of our contemporaries would prefer to ascribe a message. But here too I will hold back and not anticipate too much. See for yourself what you want to see.

Discovery flights - Unique places - Part 2
In this second part, we first stay on the main British island of England. There are again a few places included, some of which seem quite mysterious and which you should definitely visit. Some date back to ancient times and some are the work of artists who literally shout their message to the heavens in this way.
After visiting the United Kingdom, it’s on to Australia. Here there are no “mysterious” geoglyphs from past centuries to be seen, but unique and strange works of art that have caused quite a stir.

Discovery flights - Unique places - Part 3
The third part of this series takes us around the globe. There are (more or less) man-made works of art to see and a freak of nature that should be no less interesting. We circle what is probably the most famous cemetery in Europe (not at night, of course) and take a trip to the Middle East. Here we go again - typically European. I don’t even know if the Chinese or Japanese refer to this area as the “Middle East”, after all, from their point of view it is in the west. The “Arabian Peninsula” is probably a better term that everyone in the world can understand. Perhaps someone from East Asia will write to me and tell me what they call this area there.
We also set off in search of the Easter Bunny. According to the latest information, it is said to have emigrated to Australia because the bunnies in Europe lead a dog’s life and are not safe anywhere.

Discovery flights - Unique places - Part 4
The “air safari” continues. Feel like a modern-day aerial archaeologist, searching the world for traces that only make sense from a bird’s eye view. You will gain an eye for patterns, landscapes and also cultural layers of depth.
In this 4th part of the “Unique Places” series, we travel to South America, the Chilean highlands, the pampas of Argentina and the Gobi desert in China. These are man-made works of art that Google Earth users have found. Then we move on to the Arabian Peninsula and take a detour to Italy. It’s not about geoglyphs, as in many other parts of this series, but about artfully shaped artificial islands and an ideal baroque city.
This time there is the following to see:
- an animal in the desert floor
- a guitar made of trees
- a horseman in the mountains
- the islands of Bahrain
- the islands of Dubai
- the city of Palmanova, Italy, the only preserved baroque city in the world

Discovery flights - Unique places - Part 5
Most of these places that you can discover on these flights were discovered by Google Earth enthusiasts, but some were also discovered by chance by myself. Although they are recognizable as such in the simulator, they are not marked as such. So it’s interesting to fly to these places and get some of the information I’ve researched for them.
I would call the first 3 discovery flights “Written in the earth”. They are geoglyphs that may not be visible in the next update of the MSFS because someone had an idea to write something on the earth that only lasts for a short time. You can see:
- LUECKE farm, Texas

- Labyrinth in a cornfield, Germany
The second part with 3 more discovery flights is dedicated to a completely different topic.
The world is going crazy at the moment. One crisis after another, the war in Ukraine - who would have thought that this could happen again in Europe - fires and partly man-made disasters are shaking the world. The brutal violence that is being perpetrated casts doubt on people’s humanity. These 3 discovery flights are intended to remind us of the cardinal virtues of the Christian West: faith, hope and love - faith in the good, hope for peace and love for all that lives. There are 3 symbols for this; the cross, the anchor and the heart. So you will visit these 3 places:

Discovery flights - Unique places - Part 06
You are probably familiar with “Aria 51” - a secret place where secrets are kept. For many years, the world public didn’t even know where this place could be found until it eventually came out. Similar places are involved in the first 3 discovery flights - secret places where the public is never informed about what they are actually and specifically about. If you know more about it than what is written in the descriptions of the flights, please let me know and write to me.
The other 3 parts of the series “Unique Places” will take you to prehistoric geoglyphs, or rather: to prehispanic geoglyphs, because most geoglyphs from prehistoric times come from Latin America, which was largely invaded and colonized by colonial Spain. Although we know roughly which peoples created these geoglyphs, it is still unclear why they were created. It is also unclear why they were created in South America and why in the Andes of all places. To this day, these images on the ground continue to puzzle scientists. You can see them here:

Here are 3 more discovery flights to places that I came across more or less by chance during one of my trips around the world in the simulator. They criss-cross the planet to human works that seem to want to attract attention with their messages. You can see them in these 3 discovery flights:

Mysterious but also mystical things are always happening in the USA - conspiracy theories, contact with extraterrestrials or mystical forces that can be found in certain places always excite the minds of people in the United States of America. Self-proclaimed specialists in this field and recognized scientists argue about the truth. The arguments and evidence put forth by both sides are too complex for the majority of people to understand. Ultimately, everything is a matter of faith - if I am convinced, I believe. That’s why I don’t want to start a discussion about it here, but simply show you a few things that have come to my attention. My descriptions - a matter of faith. Unique places 08
In this 8th part of the series “Unique Places” there are again 6 discovery flights - on the one hand to places that have been made known by Google Earth users, such as geoglyphs, and on the other hand it is about looking at real natural wonders that are unlikely to be found in the simulator because they are so remote that hardly any flight route leads over them. In detail, there is the following to discover:
- The Jomsom stone labyrinth
- The geoglyph field of Algeria - with more than 50 geoglyphs
- The Eye of the Sahara
- The Giant of Atacama
- The Palabora mine - a very deep hole
- The Badain-Jaran desert with mega dunes and deep blue lakes
Unique Places 09
Three of the six flights in this package focus once again on the geoglyphs of artist Andrew Rogers. Unfortunately, not all of his works are visible in the simulator, which he has created in 16 countries and on 5 continents. He wants to create a globally understandable system of symbols that connects people, landscapes and cultures. Rogers builds his works in collaboration with local communities - from the Maasai in Kenya to the inhabitants of the Andes in Bolivia. This creates a network of places where people work together to create something bigger than themselves - a symbol of humanity. His works thus become social rituals and not just art objects to be honored with these flights.
You will reach the following places in this way:
- Roger’s geoglyphs in Chile
- Rogers Geoglyphs in Israel
- Rogers geoglyphs in Kenya
Afterwards you will continue around the globe to prehistoric geoglyphs in North America and on the Arabian Peninsula. There are also a few patterns on the surface of Western Australia that have caused some debate among Google Earth users, but whose origin is now easy to explain.

In the previous parts of “Unique Places,” you have mainly seen places created by humans, such as geoglyphs, secret places, or buildings. But our planet is full of wonders created by nature. I can imagine that you have long since flown over Mont Blanc, Mount Everest, or the Caribbean islands. But there is so much more to discover.

When I returned from a wonderfully relaxing vacation, SU 6 was released, which means bush trips are once again possible in FS24. Nordheim Missions and I have created more than 160 bush trips, landing challenges, and discovery flights for FS20. Over the next few months, I’ll be focusing on porting these missions to FS24. Because of this, additional “Unique Places” will have to wait a little longer. As soon as I’m done porting, there will be more installments of “Unique Places,” and once I’ve completed the next 10 installments, there will be a complete package again.
