SU15 once again postponed, what magnificent news
I think weād rather have it postponed as opposed to it not being ready next week
Donāt worry, itāll be here before you know it. I think the delay is only supposed to be a week, so early May we should have it.
Whatās the hurry?
Thing is, this is delaying the release of existing product updates and the release of new products.
As regards updates for example, it is delaying a āmuch looked forward toā update of the FSReborn FSR500 not to mention work on that devās Phenom and TL3000 which needs to be tested by its teams on a final version of SU15.
As regards new products for example, Black Square is holding back its Dukes until it knows for sure that they will be fully compatible with a final SU15.
Delays to SU15 therefore not only affect customers but also developers since projects will understandably be delayed with obvious impacts on their cashflow.
As a customer I can live with the delay especially if it means a delayed SU will mean a more optimised and more fully featured update.
SU delays for developers though are more serious, I think, with resulting impacts on their revenue stream (inconsistent and unreliable at the best of times I would imagine) not to mention implications for managing their teams of alpha or beta testers who will be left twiddling their thumbs until the SU is released.
Just my thoughts here
We are also waiting on SU15 to release the FreedomFox/Fox2 update and for the release of SimFX.
like he said, what is the hurry? the release wonāt be any different from the beta
A release version can only be ready when they think itās ready.
Itās not like theyāre lazy and unmotivated.
Personal Comments and Observations
Thereās about a half gig of RAM optimizations for XBox users that could mean a lot less ABOs (Avionics Black Outs), and WASM errors were discovered for the A320 v2.
This is the last SU for FSā20 this year, so thereās a lot of stability expectations riding on this.
Iām also a bit frustrated because thereās a few payware and freeware updates Iām anticipating that needs this update to go live.
its a lot of additional work for the developers as they need to have their products updated on both engines, SU14 and 15. adjust for all SU15 changes.
I suspect this is the final SU for the current sim so will be how it gets left for anyone not jumping to FS2024. Itās also the biggest SU yet so they clearly feel itās important to get it absolutely spot on. Theyāve been entirely transparent regarding the delays ā I honestly donāt understand the impatience of some ā Iām sure those complaining now would be first to complain further if it didnāt work as promisedā¦
They said yesterday that it was the last. SU16 will be early 2025, after msfs2024 releaseā¦
So will SU16 be for the current sim, or 2024?
Current sim.
I want new planes released as much as anyone but it seems like theyāre making a real effort to make sure SU15 works well, which is great because itās what weāll be using until the launch of 2024.
I know this is not a feedback thread but Iāve made a few flights this week in the beta on XBOX and whatever theyāve done itās working at least for me. Everything looks and feels a lot better than even earlier flights of the beta, let alone SU14.
If they can make this much progress with memory optimization in one SU I canāt wait to see what they can do with CPU optimization in ā24. If we could squeeze out just a tiny bit more LOD for populated areas on XBOX this would be even more amazing.
This right here. If this is the last big tech update for 2020, then they should make sure they get it right.
On PC ā¦
Bugger itā¦They should seriously consider delaying it, for at least an extra 2 years. I say this, because with recent WU the tile/mapping issues have destroyed the visual experience of this sim. Like a virusā¦this issue has been spreading and feeding on itself, and is now everywhere. In VR it is far more noticeable than 2d, hence why many of you donāt detect it as easily. But guess whatā¦its there, and its horrible, and getting worst.
Devās on the latest Q&A even āsemiā skirted around this plague of an issue, but referred to the water in the Caribbean not matching instead, and how sat data is done in lines via imaging aircraft, and new updated mapping are bumping up against old map data ā¦etcā¦etc. Oh and the kicker⦠āit will only take 2 years to sort outā! Except its not just the Caribbean, its literally everywhere, and spreading fast.
Thatās 2 years of gigantic lines in the scenery, mismatched colors, low res bumping into high res, and super low res distant scenery āwobbling and distortedā. Its totally wrecked the sim. And it was all said in such a āblaseā and nonchalant fashion. I have a strong feeling, they are deeply concerned about this. Because its unfix-able in the short to mid term. Hence why they sat on it for so long silently.
NOT good enough, sorry its not. Delay it for a year, makes no difference for many of us. We are fuming, and know one is listening. Total gaslight.
Since this is the last SU of the year, they HAVE to make sure theyāve got it right before they push a release. As far as Iām concerned they can delay it longer if need be, as long as theyāve got things where they need to be.
But is out of sight not out of mind? If we canāt see it, it doesnāt detract from the experience.
Well, the huge swathes of mismatched map lines You will see.
And in VR it is miserable. Some have it appearing now, some have had it appear 2 weeks ago, others have suffered it for the past month, and for others it hasnt showed up yet. But this virus is spreading fast.
Indeedā¦Out of sight out of mind, up until one day it shows up for you.
Enlarge this pic, and tell me what you see. There is nothing there, scenery detail mid to long range has been annihilated. This was taken in 2d, and on a 78003xd/4090 at 255 TLOD and 200LOD. It this state, the sim is dead. And im fuming, because the potential for this sim is stunningly amazing.
I take your point, but does it really totally kill the sim? Yes, I notice the mismatched tiles but, as annoying as they are, I try to ignore them and carry on.
