Released.. Aeroplane Heaven Grumman F3F-2

After not having flown for 2 months with the Grumman F3F-2 (v.1.3.0, bought via SimMarket), I selected after starting MSFS this plane and the moment, I selected the airport from which I wanted to depart, the game CTD. Restarted the game and again same happend. Then after restart, I selected the default Cessna 172 and no issues at all. After the Cessna, I selected the Grumman and the airport and with some stutters the flight this time did load. The plane worked just fine. After this flight, I slected again the Grumman and - alas! - when selecting the airport, MSFS again CTD.
In the past this behaviour was caused by a conflicting add-on, but sofar I did not find the culpit. But maybe it might have another cause.

Your only way of getting an answer is to diagnose the situation by removing all addons except the F3F and see what happens.

If that CTD’s the problem is the plane. If not, you have a conflicting addon, and now have to load addons one at a time (or, I do it in small groups to reduce the time).

As you noted, it sounds pretty clearly you’ve got a conflict in your setup somewhere. Sadly, it could be related to Marketplace addons, which are much harder to diagnose around.

Thank you for responding. I have tested the Grumman as the sole occupant in the community folder. It CTD. So, no lengthy testing this time. I even deleted and redownloaded the plane. At first no CTD (oh joy!) , but when selecting it for the second time: CTD again.
I have contacted the developer and they are looking into it. I have given them all the information, they wanted, and now I hope they may find the cause.

Is it an addon airport? If yes, you should try departing from a default airport. It could be a combination of aircraft/airport that causes the CTD.

I tried both: CTD. Problem is, that it might an addon airport somewhere else. I still remember an English addon airport causing CTD on Seatlle Intl. and Tacoma Narrows Airports.

Link to rel. notes for the new update 1.5.0:

Has anyone been able to start it in 2024?
Despite doing everything right, the starter just turns and turns…

Doing my best Lich King impression and raising this thread from the dead.

Version 1.5.0 starts, runs, and flies just fine in FS24. However, the main gear float a few feet off the ground when you load in so no matter how much throttle you give it, you’re not going anywhere. The tail wheel sits on the ground though. Slew mode is required to get it up in the air.

When landing, again the main gear ‘touch down’ a few feet above the ground. The brakes work, but you’re not getting going again without slew mode.

There’s gotta be a way to fix this, but I have no idea how to. After aliasing the freeware Grumman Duck engine sounds to it, it’s fun to mess around with.

Edit: Also external view gauges are borked.

I Frankenstein-ed some older versions together and it now works in 2024 (wheels on ground and start-up).

The Gulfhawk variant has some weird shading on the left forward fuselage though…

I’m sure it’s too much to ask AH for an update on this one. They don’t even seem to want to create native FS24 addons yet, despite being a partner dev. I guess the F3F-2 will keep collecting dust then.

Was it a windy day?

(Sorry, I couldn’t resist)

It’s likely an issue with the contact points and the location of the CG of the aircraft…. For those on PC who purchased it outside the marketplace, perhaps those could be fixed with some fiddling. Hopefully the fiddling doesn’t break the flight model…

I wish I knew my way around the files better. I bought my copy from Just Flight, so I can edit these files. I just have no idea what to look for, and I don’t know what to change anyway..

It’s not easy, it takes patience, reading the SDK

And lots of testing. I don’t have my flightsim computer open at the moment, but you’re looking for the contact points section of I think the FlightModel.cfg file in the Simobjects\Airplanes\(someF3Fdirectory-thevfsdirectory). A lot of what you need will be in this file, and you can check out a few of the other .cfg files that are in there as well. @CpMoustache or @NixonRedgrave might be able to help guide you, as well as the author of the Denarq Beechcraft D18 if you’re motivated to take a look.

Oh, also look at the default CG setup, perhaps it’s tailheavy and rotating about the wrong point. Wayyyyyyy back Milviz had a CG issue with the Corsair when you got into the plane which would immediately crash it (longgggg since fixed), which they initially had to fix by putting a temporary weight in the plane.

After fiddling with values for several hours the past few days and accomplishing nothing, I can confidently say I have no idea what I’m doing. It’s a good thing my livelihood doesn’t depend on it.
