[RELEASED] Ant's Airplanes Tiger Moth

I’m not sure but is carburetor icing modeled on the Tiger Moth? Maybe try pulling the carb heat and see.

Edited…It was an issue with my mixture axis, all sorted now I think.

Just purchased this plane did a quick flight in it. Great plane. One thing is how do you shut it off?!!

So I literally jumped straight in it started it up flew a circuit landed. I then shut off what I thought was the fuel (lever down on the left) not the throttle or trim. Had an on and off setting. And the prop didn’t stop.

Haven’t touched anything with the tablet yet. Literally had a small amount of time to fly.

Looking forward to getting more time in with this!

Turn off the magnetos.

When you cut off the fuel there is still fuel in the fuel lines that is being used by the engine. Just wait a bit with the fuel cut off and the engine will eventually stop. You can increase the throttle to speed up the process. It’s nicely modelled realistically that way. Basically the complete opposite to what Aeroplane Heaven does, where nothing about the fuel system works as it should.

Also with fuel be aware that full rich in a Tiger Moth is when the lever is away from the instrument panel and pushing it forward leans it.

Makes sense. That’s really neat they modelled that. As I said. I’m looking forwards to spending more time flying this.

Procedure in the pilots handbook states:
Throttle set 900-1000rpm, hold stick back and turn off magneto’s then open throttle fully until airscrew stops rotating. Close throttle, fuel cock off.

If you like to follow proper procedures? Facsimile Pilot’s Notes for the Tiger Moth are available from Crecy Publishing in the UK.

Or for free here Tiger Moth RAAF Feb. 1944

Somewhere in the manual there’s a procedure for it, basically:

  • Chocks
  • Full up trim
  • Hold stick back
  • Apply some revs ( I forget how many )
  • Flip mags off

You could probably get away without 2 and 3.

I grabbed this aircraft last night. I noticed the windshield flickers quite a bit. I wonder if it’s a known issue that might be corrected at some point? Otherwise enjoying the aircraft!

I too noticed a flickering on the border between the metal frame and the glass. It’s at the horizontal top frame.

Am I the only one who has this issue? This is rough.

I can’t get immersed in any flight in this thing. All I see is constant flickering on the glass. It’s really frustrating because I can tell this would definitely be one of my favorite aircraft otherwise, but instead I’m questioning how much I may even use it. I’m not sure what to do. I’m on XSX so I don’t really have any options.

In the PC version, there is a clickspot to turn off the reflections that cause the flicker.

( I have no idea how you do that on XBOX )

Windscreen reflections
A hidden clickspot that switches the windshield between clean and dirty. The dirty
windshield will also show reflections. Users who prefer a clear non-reflective windshield should set this to clean.

On PC you can also set that option in the tablet which you bring up by clicking on it (right of seat) .

Oh wow! THANK YOU!

Seriously, that’s huge to know! I would’ve had no clue about that click spot. Now there’s only a bit of flickering on the metal frame, but that’s significantly less distracting.

I’ve noticed the Slat Lever no longer prevents deployment of the slats in the locked position, nor are the slats retracted by the lever on the ground. Think this has happened since the latest (Caribbean) update, is anyone else seeing this?

No sir, my slats retract on the ground as they always did. I’ll watch out for them in flight but tbh I just usually leave them unlocked anyway.

I’m not sure when this happened but I can confirm that I have the same problem. Even with the slats lever set to lock the slats deploy at low speed and remain deployed once on the ground.

Seems you have the same behaviour as me yet VanDisaster’s Tiger is perfectly normal!

In flight the slats operate normally, deploying just prior to 40 KIAS and retracting when speed increases. I’m pretty sure it’s a new development because checking the operation of the slats is part of my warming up and shutdown checklist, so I’d have noticed for certain. Appreciate your input guys.

I emailed Ant about this and he says he thinks he knows what’s going on and how to fix it. He aims to solve it in an update which will come after he updates the Drifter.

(Great service from Ant, IMO)
