Please try fully deleting the folder, re-downloading the latest version, re-extracting and placing it in your Community Folder with the proper folder structure and restarting the simulator and let me know if you still have an error. I know this answer sounds unhelpful, but it works 99% of the time and should always be tried first.
DigitalJonx, Many Tks for reply, I deleted all references to the Discus, then I saw it is now in the MSFS marketplace, so I repurchased so that the system looked after the installation. It is now in my hangar, have been for a quick flight, very satisfying, have not had time to really explore yet but it would appear that the version I have does not have the motor fitted. Is the version in the marketplace the latest edition?
Great to hear! Assuming you purchased it before on Flightsim.to, I would recommend you contact support and request a refund so you arenât paying twice! Thanks for your support as always and Iâm so happy youâre enjoying it so far!
I think I am getting my monies worth even after paying twice. Did originally purchase from Flightsim.to, but it was my fault that I could not get the download setup right. The enjoyment I am getting from this glider is well worth the little extra paid for it.
Heard from a real Stinson pilot: "A good landing is when you still alive. A very good landing is when you still alive and can re-use the plane for next flight. "
Dump ballast first. With my joystickâs throttle lever being used for weight balance (the green knob) I have had to assign a button to the spoilers so I need to toggle it on approach to get the right speed etc. However for a more controlled approach I sometimes use my mouse to slide the spoilers half way etc. Both methods work.
Thank you @DigitalJonx Got Friends for this wonderful plane. Iâm on Xbox! I had my first real world glider lessons about 40 years ago in a Bergfalke and later in a K8. A Standard Cirrus & later the Astir were the only âhigher performanceâ planes I flew IRL till today now the Discus⊠in the Sim! Perfect first flights, redoing the distance and hight flights you needed for the various âCâ graduations.
One little observation: the a bit too hectic steam vario and the somewhat to much grass on the earth touching wing after landing. The latter might be an issue with the sim itself.
When I fly over deep canyons where thermals collect, do they rise in the simulator and I can fly my circles over deep canyons to gain altitude?
In my area there is a limestone mining area where thermals always build up a lot.
Is this all simulated?
Iâve flown several 2H+ flights in the Discus on Live weather. Iâm sure itâs not perfect yet, but there are thermals (theyâre normally pretty small). Ridge lift generally works like I expect it to work.
@aeroflyer90 The developers of this aircraft have nothing to do with thermal simulations in MSFS. You need to ask Asobo about how thermals are simulated. Do you know that full glider support in MSFS is not scheduled until later this year? No one outside Asobo really knows how they plan to simulate thermals yet. Are you sure you are asking your question in the right place?
Accurate thermals is something they definitely want to implement and may have done already to a limited extent however itâs going to take a lot of A.I. to accurately depict some aspects of what heats up and what doesnât e.g. dark crops in marshy ground against drying recently ploughed fields or rock outcrops that are as light as the surrounding grass, in real life conifers shouldnât really kick off any more heat than deciduous trees so simply attributing lift to darkness would never be perfect and I havenât even mentioned the black shadows in some Bing topography. However IMO these and thermals collecting over quarries or particular rocks etc. may need addition locational input from devs or even responsible users to pinpoint and even then there could be seasonal affects to consider.
In this interview Jörg Neumann said that there currently are no thermals in the sim:
âSome people think that we have thermals, but we actually donât have thermals in the sim.â
So other than ridge lift and some specifically made weather presets there are no thermals and weâll have to wait and see what happens in November when the official glider support is coming.
The plane (Discus 2c) comes with 4 weather presets that allow to simulate various situations. Not perfect but a lot of fun and astonishing near real world gliding experience. PS:⊠all 4 but one: the cross country one has huge, dark cloud towers that look nowhere near a cross country flying dayâŠ
