Released: Dominic Design Team Nashville KBNA

I’ve always been a bit lukewarm towards DDT’s stuff but this actually looks really nice. The night-lighting looks incredible — I just hope all the effort hasn’t gone into the obviously stunning terminal building, leaving the rest of the airfield neglected and unimpressive.

I bought Nashville yesterday and unfortunately I have to clearly advise against buying the airport in its current state. I have many airports by now, but I have never seen such differences in quality in one and the same airport. The ground textures look really good for the most part, the building textures are great and the interior is also of a very high standard.

However, the land side and the satellite images of the airport area look awful. What is simply unacceptable, however, are the elevation issues that can be observed in several parts of the airport. Entire buildings are flying in the air, as are taxiway lights. An unfinished product has been released. I will request a refund, because in my opinion this is not how an addon should go on sale.

To be clear. Dominic Design Team definitely has the potential to create great airports. Many aspects of the scenery are excellent. But please DD finish your work before you release airports. Then you could catch up with the top developers. But definitely not in this form.

Pictures say more than a thousand words.

The good

The bad

I’ve been using FeelThere’s version, which has been updated a couple times to both fix bugs and add features (the satellite terminal, for instance). I hope they update it again next year for the Concourse D extension now under construction, and to reflect changes to the taxi routing now implemented. No interior modeling keeps performance high but external textures are just okay, as is night lighting.

I have been hoping another dev takes a crack at it for a long time though - competition is good. It’s too bad this rendition doesn’t seem all that well-polished.

I have heard that there is an update for KBNA. However, this is not yet displayed on Simmarket. In any case, the update is urgently needed and I’m looking forward to the adjustments. For me, this is by far the most unfinished airport I have bought so far.

Here are some more examples.

delete the cgl, then you have default MSFS ground textures.
Okey, i bought it, theres no cgl, seems to be default msfs textures already…

Last night’s update to version 1.1 solved first problems with floaing buildings and uneven taxiways. But this means that perhaps 15 out of 500 bugs have been fixed. If the airport hadn’t cost me money, I’d probably just laugh about the bugs. This airport is simply bizarre in all peripheral areas away from the terminal. Fences and grass float through the air wherever you look. And I simply can’t see the supposedly higher resolution of the satellite images. If you stay strictly in the cockpit on the way to the gate and don’t look too closely, you can even live with the scenery. For my part, I bought my last scenery from DDT.

That is absolutely unacceptable. You have solid grounds for a refund there.

It’s unacceptable and becoming common with them and a few others. They invest a bunch of resources in interiors and completely neglect the real assets that make an airport. Hopefully, the new Marketplace will weed this out if the name alone doesn’t do it. I’ll stick with Verticalsim, FlyTampa, Flightbeam, Ini, Drzewiecki, and MK’s of the world.

Those pics are bad.
That said, the reviews on simmarket are rather positive and I’d like to have a Nashville scenery.
Overall, does anyone care to comment which is best… the Feelthere or Dominic Design Team version? or are they just both completely unacceptable by current standards. Doesnt seem like anyone else is planning to release this airport.

I own both (FeelThere and Dominick Design). Dominick Design win hands down in terms of terminal and garage/hotel modeling, night lighting, etc. I do think the ground textures around the airport could use a “beauty pass”, though those are not critical in my opinion. I’ve landed and/or departed from thee of the 4 main runways (all save 31/13) and have taxied around and along of them without encountering any odd terrain issues.

That said, the airport desperately needs a custom GSX profile. I’m very surprised no one has created one yet, to be honest.

One other thing to consider with regard to Nashville. The expansion to Concourse D is currently underway and will extend that terminal wing and add 5 additional gates. Following the completion of this expansion, I believe Concourses A and B are in line for renovation. I’d have to dig out my copy of the long term site plan for more specifics. EDITED TO ADD: Concourse A is slated to be completely leveled and rebuilt with a total of 10 gates, but won’t be completed until 2026

So basically, KBNA has been a bit of a moving target over the last few years with the construction of the Satellite Concourse, reconstruction of the main terminal and international arrivals facility; and filling in/paving of the former huge drainage basin between Concourses B and C. The airport will remain a moving target over the next few years with all the additional work underway and still to come.

EDITED TO ADD: In addition, a new Cargo Terminal is slated to replace the existing operation on the western side of the field (the location of the original BNA terminal prior to the “new” current location which opened in the mid-90’s. Even further, an entirely new second terminal is planned to be built and completed by ~2028 or so on the south side of the facility, where the GA and Tennessee National Guard operations are currently housed, but that plan is bumping into the FAA’s own plans to replace the existing control tower with a new one, and negotiations are ongoing. That terminal may also interfere with and ultimately spell the end of little-used Runway 31/13, though yet ANOTHER big change is the planned expansion of Runway 2L/20R to add several thousand feet. Residential and some commercial properties in the way of THAT expansion have already been condemned, the approval of the runway extension is tied to approval of the overall airport site plan by the FAA, which I don’t believe is yet final. So yeah, a LOT of changes recently and still to come in the next few years.

But for now, for me, the Dominick Design version wins.

I have also seen the positive reviews on Simmarket (not all but some are positive). As I wrote above: If you stay strictly in the cockpit and mainly taxi from the runway to the terminal and back, then the airport looks quite good. But the landside and the peripheral areas look terrible. And with an add-on for almost 20 euros, I honestly expect more than just a nice terminal. But for many on Simmarket, that seems to be enough. I’m also pretty sure that the airport from Dominic Design Team is better than the one from Feelthere. But for me the airport is half finished and seems to be released too early.

I think this video by SizzlingPopcorn sums it up well. From minute 16 he also talks briefly about the positive reviews on Simmarket.

Thanks for your input.

KBNA is in a geographically central location (mid-continental, between the eastern airports and middle USA) allowing for shorter flights and has connecting flights to a lot of airports i own.

I certainly would not want one of my primary airports to be modeled like this. however for a place i occasionally fly to it seems passable. I do hope they continue to improve this scenery. This could be their moment to shine, given the lack of major competition I’d expect this to be one of their more in demand airports.

I really think the criticisms are overblown. This is my local “big” airport (I live <30 miles away and have flown in and out of this airport many times IRL and many more times in the sim). Like I said, the ground textures around the airport could use a clean-up but the functional parts of the airport are done well and look very nice. Give me an accurate, well-done GSX profile and I’d give it a 95% score. As it is, it’s early an 85 out of a possible 100 for me.

To clarify, I’ve been lucky enough to have my home airports designed by Drzewicki and FlyTampa. This is not that level.

Purchased this last night. I’d call it a good mid-tier airport. It lacks the finishing touches of a top level developer. But there is some great work done here on the terminal buildings.

Bang per your hard earned buck will ultimately vary per individual. I don’t regret buying it.

Seems to be some problems with the AFCAD for the airport, I used it with Beyond ATC last night and didn’t get told to hold short of crossing one of the runways, it just let me taxi across them as if they weren’t there.

Runway 31/13, right? I’ve made 8-10 flights into or out of this airport since I bought it and BATC has told me to hold short of runway 31 one time, which is odd because the airport flow was to the north, and the instruction should have been to cross 31. Every other flight, BATC has just acted like that runway doesn’t exist. FWIW, I have also used BATC to fly out of the FeelThere version and had the same behavior - BATC acting like 31 doesn’t exist. I strongly suspect it’s a BATC procedure problem but can’t confirm that.

Yes, it was 31/13. Could be a BATC problem, but my understanding is it just reads the scenery AFCAD, so could also be a problem with the scenery. If you had said any other scenery maker than FeelThere I might have agreed!

I mean, you’re not wrong, lol. That said, I DID get the hold-short instruction after one arrival into 2C. I don’t know why I got it that one time and never any others, nor do I know why I get no acknowledgement at all on departures from that runway.
