This reminds me of the rotate MD-11 and some dude was giving them flak for a texture of one of the button covers not being that great. It’s like “Oh no, ….anyway”
Hi Hugothester! When you say “loud in the back” I assume you mean in real life? In the Leonardo version I’ve not seen any video from the cabin–are the sounds “positional”, so that it is loud in the back in the sim too?
If not, I hope that FTSim+ will adapt and improve his MD-80 sound-set he’s used for Rotate, to bring a good positional set for this plane.
Even though I love the MD-80, at this price point I’ll likely wait until a positional sound set is available, and start the jet liner add ons with the 146.
Thanks!
I actually meant external view
As promised here is the FPS test of the MD-80 vs FBW A320, you can see the FPS in the top right corner of the screen
EDIT: Forgot to mention my specs, I am using 4k Ultra preset (nothing custom) and a Ryzen 5 3600 and RTX3070 with 16Gb of RAM
And a couple screenshots of the AA liverie someone had requested
As a senior visualiser for a company that uses Unreal and Unity to create photo realistic environments… if only it were as simple as you claim.
Sure you can tesselate into oblivion and times your polycount by a factor of 20. This is worst practice though and not industry standard at all.
There are workflows to go from low to high poly but believe me it is not a matter of clicking a button and adjusting a few UVs. You CAN do this but I’d be skinned alive if I followed your ‘workflow’. I’d also skin any of my staff for this, because they know better before they even started working with me.
Edit: I only say this as it is unfair of you to claim that Leonardo is too lazy to ‘click a couple of buttons’. Most people know it is not the case but I wanted to clear it up for those who may not.
I too am slightly let down by the visuals and find the price a little steep on that front. I’ll still grab it if the reviews are good but it would be nice to wait another month or two (the actual time it would take a single person to go through this model and do the work) and have a more visually polished result. The exterior seems to lack any real panel lines or rivets (yes the R-word) which is a bit of a shame.
Don’t forget that Leonardo’s great reputation is also based on the fact that they never stop to improve their products. After the release of the FSX version they improved the VC with several updates. They added PBR when it became available. And gave us the EFB for free. Whereas FSLabs and PMDG wanted big money for their EFBs. So I’m sure they will not stop to work on the VC after the release.
Honestly, the only thing that worries me is the sound set. I think they never really improved it in the last 10 years. And it is still a poor representation of how a MD-80 sounds. Especially in exterior view it sounds like a vacuum cleaner. Just compare this…
…with the excellent TSS sound set for the FSX/P3D version of the Maddog:
It’s a difference like night and day. The sound in the VC is rather bland as well. I haven’t heard any wind noise in the preview videos. Hopefully they will find a way to improve the sounds somewhere down the line. The Maddog definitely deserves a good sound set.
And Kari (FTSim+) has some great MD-80 sounds for the Rotate, and he’s building great WWISE skills, so perhaps he’ll bring a sound kit to the Leonardo. Sounds, especially positional/3D are such a value add for immersion. It is disappointing that this upcoming MD will be a whisper of what it should be.
With the Maddod there will be probably no problem with the Simmarket Updater, as the Maddog has its own Load Manager, where a version check occurs. You dont have to start this thing every flight, but you could. Who knowsmaybe there will be a option to update the Maddog directly via this loadmanager.
That would be great if you can update through their own manager. Thanks for the info.
If ppl have issues with engine sounds (me inc) ; can you simply turn the engine sound up in msfs sound options menu like all other planes? That would solve this issue? Are the engine sounds volume adjustable in the sim or load planner? If not, I may not purchase yet as cabin or wingviews may sound odd.
Please le me know if you can make the engine sounds louder before I buy it.
Thanks.
FTSim has pack for the P3D version. They are usually pretty quick to transfer it to different platforms. It took them like a day to get one out for the Rotate MD-11.
So you’re getting ~10 extra fps with the MD80 compared to the FBW - I’ll take that over a higher poly count since this means it might run quite smoothly in VR, which is excellent news.
Thanks! I’ve sent Kairi some additional MD-88 recordings/videos in case he needs them…would be great to have his positional WWISE work on this bird!
You said this same statement about the Concorde. HOW are you qualifying that it feels “COMPLETELY LIKE THE REAL THING”? I understand people liking to try a new plane but that kind of statement is VERY MISLEADING to people unless you have flown this plane before for which case I would say that sounds good. Have you flown this plane before IRL or is this just another assumption that in your mind it feels like you would want it to feel?
I disagree, I am here for the whole package. If it flies great and sounds bad or looks bad I’m disappointed. If it looks great and sounds great but flies bad I’m disappointed. If it looks bad, sounds bad and flies bad, I would HOPE EVERYONE should be disappointed!
I whole heartily concur! The hype train and devs trying to outdo each other with influencers that will say anything to help them sell is disingenuous. I don’t mind gloating but as long as they’re pointing out the bad and not letting it slide is fine. If a release is close to perfection with some flaws I’m ok with that as well.
I truly believe this will be the most in depth plane simulation in msfs thus far, but that’s only one side of thing, it is also the most expensive one by a huge margin. It’s one thing that DCD Concorde with a price tag amount to almost half of it to have less than optimal graphics quality and another thing for the most expensive addon in the game.
Like I can accept buying a GM car with less than perfect finish, but if buying a Ferrari you better make every panel like art
I mean you ask for 75eur which is no small amount for this plane and you’re inevitably going to get people comparing it to other addons in its class.
I kind of agree with them and probably won’t be picking this one up unless they match up with the incoming competition.
We can turn our noses up at the people complaining about the poor visuals and sounds but you forget that the vast majority of simmers are probably going to be passing this one by in favour of the lower priced and similar fidelity but far better looking and sounding alternatives. It doesn’t help that this plane has been terribly marketed in the first place and they’re only releasing on sim market.
For all the praises people sing about this dev and plane I honestly can’t see this being a major commercial success in the msfs world, I mean they’ll probably make P3d money but not Msfs money…
Best of luck to them I guess.
Guys, what can I tell you from P3D experience, this plane is not for the ppl who look at textures and springs. Don’t expect you will have time to look into screwhead textures, the ammount of workload for single pilot operation is way different from A or B. I do expect LSH improve texturing and modeling and I have no doubt they will. They did change pax cabin entirely already. What I’m trying to say, this plane is loved not for the roundness of springs in cockpit, but for compexety of systems and the ammount of sweat you get operating it right in vatsim enviroment
