[Released] Sud Vautour (freeware)

Really nice native MSFS port of the FSX of the freeware Sud Vautour available over on Restauravia.fr. It’s a full native port, so switches and VR all work.

France’s first supersonic (in a dive) production aircraft. Flight model feels really good.

So how do you open the canopy? The black lever on the left side has a clickspot marking it as such. You get a small hand indicating the clickspot, but it is neither highlighted nor is there any functionality. On the other hand, the red lever on the right side does function by blowing the canopy off.

I really like taxiing with the canopy open, as was often the case in aircraft of this type. However, I don’t like talking on the radio, which was always the case with aircraft of this type.

The other problem I have is the lack of an artificial horizon as the Vautour’s will not uncage and thus is uselss in the clouds. Flying a high speed jet in IFR conditions with no more flight instrumentation than a SPAD just doesn’t work.

The canopy functions using the black lever you mentioned. You just have to click and roll it simultaneously, similar to how most rheostat dials operate in the sim. This will move the lever forward or back, opening or shutting both canopies. There is also a delay for the exterior model, so you can wait for the canopy to close from the pilot’s view, then switch to exterior and watch them close again. I’m not sure if that’s intentional, but it’s neat.

You can uncage the artificial horizon by clicking the button to the bottom-right of the dial. The tooltip will switch from HORIZON:BLOQUE to HORIZON:LIBRE accordingly.

This is a very nice plane and quite fun to fly. The engines spool up slowly, but it has plenty of power and it will absolutely edge past the sound barrier in a dive - just be ready for some vicious compression stall. The bicycle undercarriage makes it a unique challenge to land, as well.

Doesn’t work. The canopy lever is locked in the open position and will not move. Click results in the message “Wheels down canopy wheels up” The attitude indicator moves to one side and then remains fixed. I have tried all the buttons on the instrument to no avail. Maybe its time for a reload.

Works fine, just checked it.

Put the pointer on the canopy lever on the left and roll your mouse wheel. That will open the canopy. It’s not a click, it’s a wheel-spin.
