[RELEASED] Wilga 35/80 Series | Got Friends

Could use a little help if someone wouldn’t mind. I’m very used to flying taildraggers in the sim. I have used a mix of landing the mains, flying the tail, then letting the tail down slowly in other taildraggers as well as doing three point landings. I can’t seem to get either down in the Wilga with any sort of repetition.

When I land in the Wilga (80 variants are the only I have tried so far) I tend to land right at stall speed and all seems well and then i seem to lose traction and spin or slide off the runway. It has happened in tougher off airport/bush landings as well, but it seems much less frequent. Open to any and all landing tips to avoid this and keep her straight down the runway/landing path.

Hmm, not to state the obvious, but are you pulling back on the stick a bit after you get the tail wheel down? What sort of controllers are you using? Rudder pedals?

Also, I recommend pulling your prop lever, make sure you drop your flaps, pull your elevator up, maintain braking, and rudder slighty left to negate any torque effects. A lot to do on landing, but you can minimize distance if planned enough. Soon you’ll be STOLing the world with 30 ft landings! :slight_smile:

I usually raise the flaps immediately to reduce lift, then pull back on the stick and brake lightly.

Same “problem” here.
2nd flight, some animations don’t show.
Restart the flight, animations are back.
No CTD yet.

The Wilga has smoke!? Or is this a mod?

Switch on the Taxi lights :tornado: :wink:

Or on the pad.

This type of thing has happened to me randomly though rarely, ever since the initial release some months ago. Restarting the flight will usually clear up the broken animations.

I think the Wilga generally likes 3 point landings. I’ve seen pilots comment that the real life Wilga is prone to ground looping on landing and I found that to be pretty accurate to this one as well. I used to have issues with them more regularly until I started doing much slower landings, using throttle adjustments to ride the back of the nose up stall curve, rather than a nose-down approach with a longer flare. If you have a bunch of taildragger/STOL experience you probably know what I’m talking about.

It likes to be treated rough :slight_smile:
Got to grab it by the curlies… I’m trying to resist making a too blatant reference to willies again and get censored, but you get my drift!

I find you can get away with a lot - you sometimes have to react quickly on the pedals, and for sure slower landings help but it can slow really quickly if you need to get it stopped. I do also naturally land nose up a bit (can’t say if that counts as a 3-point!) so you are not running on 2 wheels for long.

With FS Realistic, you really feel the landings as being quite hard “as minimum” - even if you are trying to be gentle, but I’ve not had a problem of losing control yet.

If you’re comfortable editing cfg files, you can go into each variant’s aircraft.cfg file and change each instance of

isUserSelectable=1

to

isUserSelectable=0

For the versions and liveries that you don’t use.

EDIT: For example, I only fly the 80P variant with the CA-NDO livery, here’s an example of the edits made the to aircraft.cfg file in the GotFriends_Wilga_80P directory:

Ah yes, I should have asked about Marketplace vs direct from Got Friends, sorry. :confused:

The only Marketplace aircraft I have is the Staggerwing and I’m digging through it now to see if I can do this trick.

Hopefully someone else can jump in and help out.

Sorry, @DigitalJonx - do you have any idea what I am missing here?
I have the latest update of the sky4sim-ng plugin from your link (fs.to), and the latest application installed from them, and server running. Got these thing in Community, but the screen is just black. I’m sure it’s my error, but it worked fine last time (previous version) so not sure what step I did wrong! Having the toolbar button pressed does not bring up the in-game popup content now either. Bit confused.

Did anyone get multiplayer towing to work on xbox ?

We used 35A special livery and the gotfriends discus.

This aircraft has wwise. You can see it in the files. And I can notice a small change in loudness. If you have a recording tool (obs or something) you will see it also on the audiometer. In my setup it goes from around -15db to -20db when I close the door.

Kind regards

Well-deserved title. The Wilga is a work of art and although I should have learned what to expect after the phenomenal Discus 2c and the extremely underrated Optica, I am blown away at how much fun the Wilga is to fly. Everything about it feels incredibly real.
