Reliving/discovering books from my childhood

When I was a teenager I read (and still re-read on occasion) a series of books by Leif Hamre. They were military aviation focused, and written in the late 50s to early 70s. I remember dreaming of flying those cold war era fighters, and the descriptions were great. Especially the area around their base of operations, Kjeller airfield (ENKJ) was described in detail.
This morning I took a flight in the C152 with Kjeller as my destination. Coming in over Maridalsvannet, seeing the “familiar” landmarks and the old airfield over the nose of my aircraft literally brought chills up my spine!

Now I wish the old fighters can roar again in this sim! I would love to relive the books in a Thunderjet or a Vampire!

They are great books, there’s nothing but harmless action sequences, and all in all a very positive experience for children and adults with an aviation interest. Highly recommended!
