I think there’s some SDK issue where ground airport vehicles can’t differentiate between ground vehicle path vs aircraft taxiway path. So that randomly these vehicles will travel on both pathways, so they can also drive on the aircraft taxiways.
You can avoid this by setting your airport ground vehicles to 0. You can’t have cars driving on the taxiways if there are no cars.
Aircrafts only move around the airport if you have set your Air Traffic to either Offline AI traffic or Online Live traffic. But even so, the ones that are parked at the gate and the ones moving around are treated separately by the sim.
■■■ are the crash fire rescue guys doing drivers training directly on the runway while im on it at EGKA. I’m ready to take off and they are doing parallel parking training in the AARF Trucks dead smack on the active.
From Neo4316:
“Aircrafts only move around the airport if you have set your Air Traffic to either Offline AI traffic or Online Live traffic. But even so, the ones that are parked at the gate and the ones moving around are treated separately by the sim.”
Oh no… so I will never see traffic coming from the runway, and taxing into a gate? Or an airplane pushing back from the gate, and taxing to take off?
Even with high ground vehicles and worker density, there’s very little activity anywhere around the airports except 2 places:
Where your plane currently is; and
Where your plane is going.
For some reason, ground traffic and workers seem to be attracted to our plane like a magnet. I can’t even begin to count how often I’ve seen a truck, pushback vehicle, fire truck, fuel truck, fork lift, etc racing across the apron (or down a taxiway or runway) at speeds that would get them airborne if they had wings, only to promptly stop right in my path while I’m taxiing. Or ground vehicles swarm around your plane while you’re starting up, only to box you in so you can’t actually move without hitting them. Or multiple ground workers congregating right in front of the marshaller as you’re trying to pull into your parking spot.
It seems like it’s deliberatly meant to place said ground assets in areas around you for the eye candy effect, which in itself isn’t necessarily a bad thing. However, the concepts of safety and personal space was never programmed in.
I tend to use very low settings for both those items, which results in very little ground traffic. Which is a shame really, since airports feel much more ‘alive’ when there’s a lot of ground activity. But despite the low amount of traffic and workers, they still all manage to find me and get in my way.
For me it actually feels like this got worse after the last update. Either that or I simply didn’t notice it as much previously. Like others here I’ve just started taxiing through them.
No… you will see that, but not in a way that you would expect it to.
For example, the sim will spawn a “static” American Airlines A320 at gate 4B. This is just a parking aircraft. It doesn’t do anything. The sim spawns these liveries at these gates at random. There’s no logic other than it’s a Gate and should be populated with airliner types.
Then your Live traffic now loads a departing Southwest airline. Then this becomes a separate process where the sim will start to spawn a “moving” air traffic at a random gate. So since this is random, there’s a chance that the sim will spawn this moving traffic at gate 4B. So the gate where you saw there was an American Airlines parked, now suddenly disappears and replaced with the Southwest Airline traffic. Which is then started to connect to the jetway, do a pushback, engine start, taxi and eventually take off.
Same goes with the other way around, you’ll see arriving air traffic, but as they taxi to the gate, the ATC will assign them a random gate, just like they do with you. Again, before assigning the gate by the ATC, the gate itself may be randomly populated by the sim’s “static” airtraffic. And as soon as they’re cleared to taxi to a random gate (5A for example), whatever parked air that was there will disappear instantly because the Air traffic that’s taxiing there will be replacing it.
I feel the whole AI system is placeholder for now I hope. The world and airports feel dead when I’m not even being bullied by ai for takeoff priority like FSX.
I’m sure this is something Asobo or atleast a 3rd party payware dev will fix and perfect in the future.
One of the best parts of a flight for me is waiting in line and watching ai planes take off before me.
Miami International was notorious in FSX for chaotic ATC management and a ton of performance eating ai aircraft traffic jams and diversions, but it gave the place a character and mood of its own.
Only in FSX a 737 bullies a huge A350 for takeoff priority.
I have seen this many times. One second there is nothing out there. You start to taxi, then all of a sudden a vehicle of some kind will make a beeline for you. If the attempt here is to create the impression of a busy airport, injecting some kind of flavour to the proceedings, three people carriers, and a forklift holding short is not the way to do it!
It is incongruous and ridiculous that on the different tarmacs, ways, the staff and cars or other vehicles circulate or stay before the planes ou just behind the reactors . For I, that are either bugs or and lacks of control of the software. It would be urgent to remedy of it
I had an interesting variant to this over the weekend, and addition to spawning traffic that lunges for you as your taxi past.
To my left I see a bus, and it starts to move towards me, and remarkably stops just to my left so I can taxi past. As I go I’m curious as to whether it is following me or not, so I look back, and there is no bus.
It was despawned for some reason, perhaps because I want looking at it.
The refuelling trucks are something else. Had one sitting about 50ft from me. Requested refuelling and saw the truck move off. It then preceded to drive to the other end of the airport then double back on the parallel access route to reach me!
Hello,
Runway vehicles often clutter taxi lanes or take taxis despite a plane flying over them.
Today arrived at LFRC (Cherbourg) 2 vehicles are stopped at the exit of the runway
