Renaming Folders under Community Folder?

Is there any reason why we can’t rename the first-level folders that are under Community? In lieu of using Add-on Linker, I’d like to prefix the hundred or so folders I’ve accumulated there with the type of data it is, for easy sorting and moving back and forth to a temp folder. i.e. prefix with “AIRCRAFT-”, “AIRPORT-”, “LIVERY-”, “KEEP-” for items that should always stay here like Navigraph. (Though will probably use shorter prefixes so it doesn’t run into path length limits.)

I’m hoping that devs would not make references inside the folder hard-coded to the parent folder name, but you never know.

Hi @SteveKane ,

Thank you for your post! Your topic has been moved to a sub-category of the User Support Hub

If you would like other users to help you with an issue you are experiencing in the sim, consider these User Support Hub categories for your future post:

You can change the name, I do it all the time, as I too like to keep mine in a similar order.
You shouldn’t have any issues

Oh, very good, something I’ve wanted to know and do as well. I’ll change all the airport add-ons to start file name with their ICAO ident.
Cheers

This is a simple manager for planes, scenery, etc. May fit your needs. I use it all the time. Package Manager for MSFS for Microsoft Flight Simulator | MSFS

Thanks for that

What‘s wrong with Addon Linker?
I use it every day and could not be happier - loading the scenery and plane for my next flight is just a couple of clicks.

Within my Addon folder, my addon collection is organized just as others outlined above.

I myself do not need or use all the functions of Addon Linker. Package manager is all I need.

I am very reluctant to run anything as Elevated Administrator in Windows, especially unsigned/untrusted code (as I suspect Add-On Linker is, though I’ve not downloaded and tried it).

Does MSFS2020 load everything there is in your com folder or only the part (if you make a flightplan) between your FP or the range of the plane?

I hate to constantly copy and paste it, but if it makes a difference in FPS i surely would do it. Or does it only effect loading times.

FS2020 loads everything in the Community Folder.
I keep my addons out of the Community Folder and use symbolic links to put in the ones I will be using for the flight.
An addon manager does basically the same thing.

I do not KNOW. But I THINK it affects loading time only. That is my experience so far.

Not sure if you are aware, but addon linker can be used perfectly fine without admin privileges. It used to need admin privileges before but not any more.

Most impact of having thousands of addon is your desktop to sim main menu load time.

The flight load time from main menu is mostly not that impacted even if you have thousands of addons.
