Render Scale effect the Render distance of buildings?

Is this how it should be? if i am on 30000ft cruise level my render distance is much better and clear when i put the slider too 200…
when i put it too 100 its awful

That’s because you are effectively rendering at a higher resolution. The trade off is performance. I have a powerful rig and run all Ultra @ 4K, so to force SSAA I set the render scaler at 110. At 140 I begin to see some stutters, but at 110 everything looks very satisfactory and I’m still pulling circa 30 FPS.

ok ty, but why my houses and trees get rendered at a other distance? this shouldnt be or?

I think you mean draw distance maybe?

yeah … why does this change the draw distance? i have everything on ultra and the draw distance is bad … only the render scaling change it?

I’m not sure I understand- are you having buildings that “pop up” all of the sudden ?

The render scale is a software resolution modifier. If you have 1080 as your screen resolution and the render scale is set to 100, you are seeing 1080. If you set the render scale to 50, you are cutting your resolution in half giving you 540 instead of 1080. When you go above 100, you are adjusting your resolution to a higher value than your screen resolution setting, so 110 would give you 1188.

yeah all sudden, but if i look 2-3 km away in the distance there is no buildings or anything but when i go to 200 render scale there are buildings…
yeah sry for my bad english

yeah i know but why are there more buildings renderd at the distance? i know what u mean with the resolutions

On my Ryzen 5 3600 and 1660 Super 6GB, I run the game at Ultra and use 150% Resolution Scaling and generally keep 25-30fps when running at 1080p.

Render Scaling, more than anything, is what makes the game look good IMO. It’s not just buildings that pop up, it’s trees on hills in the distance, it’s texture resolution on mountains, and LOD boosts for subjects in the distance. Otherwise yes at 100% scaling, the game kind of looks blurry and low-detail.

I’m going to be picking up an RTX 3080 specifically so I can run FS2020 On Ultra at 200% scaling and 1080p and still keep 30fps.

March 2021 update: RTX3000 and RX6000 series doesn’t exist in retail, the 1660 went to the office in my work computer, I currently use a 5700XT, and the comments above I’m not sure are as applicable anymore because of renderer updates and TAA algorithm changes Asobo has made since I posted this.

ok yeah same for me, but that the terrain is so low detailed at 100% render scale shouldn‘t be or?

I have a 4k monitor but I am playing the game at 1440p at Ultra. According to multiple post here in the forum I am using my native monitor resolution of 3840x2160 in-game with a render scale of 65%. So far the interface is crisp and the detail are clear. However, I too noticed that render distance is very poor, despite having everything at 200. I might have to test this further.

yeah try it… the difference is enorm

I get where you’re coming from, I feel like this “render scaling” thing is a new concept and I don’t ever remember having problems with distant LOD’s on older games. It’s almost as if 100% is 1/2 detail, and 200% is what it would ACTUALLY normally look like…

It’s especially bad in Red Dead Redemption 2, where 100% resolution scaling flat out looks awful, especially with trees

yeah this is what i mean ! :man_shrugging:

Perhaps the Patch #2 performance improvements will help in this area.
