Reno Hotfix - the future of FS2020?

I’m somewhat concerned the interest is in playing semantics to downplay problems, we all know what it meant by broken and it is correct, the live weather feature is broken, it is not even displaying the weather from the associated METAR, it is not integrating to its surroundings, and it makes flying with it impossible - how can I risk using it if it might make it impossible to land at the end of my flight? On the rare occasions it’s actually online, transitions don’t work, we get strange ‘weather bubbles’ around the radius of METAR stations, clouds rise out of the ground putting airports out of operation, visibility is widely incorrect with fog like conditions being painted in areas of good visibility, gusts still don’t work (seriously?!), the weather radar is broken (can I use that word here?), storms present no threat, did I miss anything? It is stopping me being able to actually land planes which I’d say makes it fairly broken no?

I think we’d all really like some acknowledgement from the developers about this and how big an impact it has. So far the only feedback we seem to have got is that we are rather bothering the forum moderators by daring to raise the issues and an increase in slightly passive aggressive requests to keep quiet, which I really find extremely poor. There seems to be a real effort for some reason not to acknowledge how bad the new weather system is, and I can only presume now this is on orders from higher up given the lack of any communication from there. Any considerate developer by now would have come out with an apology and road map, even if time frames aren’t known yet. The clear implication is they do not care they have damaged a product we have paid for and reduced its functionality. Only in software can you do that without the consumer having any rights whatsoever.

Anyway whatever the semantics, this parrot is dead, it has ceased to be and is most certainly bereft of life! Which leaves us all pining for the fjords.

Did everyone wanted the change to METAR based weather system? I was not one of them asking for it. Should be options to turn it off for us who not want it. It was not advertised like a METAR based weather system. It was advertised as a predicted weather system, and i liked that. Should we now need to make a wish to have it back as it was?

I’ll leave you to your expactations

Not everyone, but it was very high on the wish list.

I did a 3 hour flight with live weather from Lugano to Rotterdam and it was fine. So again: yes there are issues, but apparently it depends on the location/server/etc. I never said there were no issues. I said it is not completely broken and therefore not as straightforward as you claim it to be.

Oh please. You really think the moderators are censoring negative feedback and issues rising? Have a 2 second look on the forum. Bug reporting/issue reporting is fine. Constructless ranting is not. There’s a difference.

I know that but only those who wants it can vote for it. It’s no against vote. And it was not very specific thread to inject METAR. It said weather does not match that doesn’t mean inject METAR instead.

Ok, let me get this straight…

A hot fix was created to stop cheating in Reno… likely a very easy fix with few ramifications.

Now people are complaining that Asobo hasn’t done a hot fix for live weather and a few other problems, problems that likely spread like tentacles through the system (Asobo for some reason has had a very difficult time with units conversions, but I won’t go there), and any fix very likely requires some pretty major rewriting…

And somehow, people who have zero idea about the difficulty and required resources to fix a variety of issues have decided they know exactly how to prioritize software development work and that somehow fixes should be instantaneous and super simple?

If the fix was easy, it would be done.

You may be perfectly happy to have people who’ve sold you something come along later and damage it with nothing you can do about it, but some of us don’t roll over quite so easily.

What is the point in playing semantics? Significant functionality doesn’t work, indeed by Asobo’s own previous claims, the most important part of the sim outside the aircraft. If it means turning live weather on renders many airports unusable that should be, that is broken enough for most people’s definitions. The weather radar, can we class that as broken since it now doesn’t adjust for range or update?

I don’t get what you’re trying to achieve? Do you deny the bugs exist? Do you just not want them to be fixed? Why argue with people raising clear and universal bugs? We’ve all seen the history of how hard it can be to get Asobo to acknowledge and fix even extremely obvious bugs, so don’t tell us ‘they know, there’s no need to keep on about it’. We’re not that naive.

Look where we are, the people defending this are have now sunk to having to argue the definition of ‘working’ to defend the game. When you reach that point maybe it’s time to stop digging and accept reality. These bugs affect you too.

If all that’s the case, they should say so, honesty and transparency go a long way. Don’t reduce functionality and go silent on your customers.

How did they reduce functionality?

They already told us that SU8 is going to be bug fixing, and discussed many existing bugs known at the time, and in the next Dev Q&A will discuss more. And they absolutely did say how complex the weather engine is and that they are diligently working on improving it, and what their plan is.

Technically, they didn’t even have to say anything about what was in the hot fix… and yet they did.

How much transparency do you need???
I have never seen a development team be more transparent about their priorities, development process, and what they are going to fix next. Ever.

They have skipped 1 development update due to holidays. Tonight there’s another update.

What people like that are trying to achieve is strictly related to PR. They’re trying to inject enough doubt about our issues so that anyone looking in from the outside (press, bloggers, etc) will just consider us complainers and hopefully won’t realize what a state of disarray things are really in.

Or they’re just in a state of denial.
Or because the issues don’t personally affect them, they don’t really care.

Ok, I’ll give you that one

live weather doesnt work, and transition is horrible

Strange, thought they said it should blend with METAR? Transission we already had with addons like REX or unreal weather. Why implement it when we already had the option for those transissions i wonder. Now we have no options to get it back as it was.

So, blanket statements like this will get zero response from Asobo.

Live weather has worked perfectly for me since the update. So, I’m assuming there are issues with long airliner flights or something?

Saying it doesn’t work, when it clearly does, is no help, and statements like that will be noted, but largely ignored. Reproducible details with instructions to reproduce will get attention.

I assume the MSL/AGL bug is real (even though I haven’t seen it) and documented, like, somebody looked at the output and realized this was the issue (like the ATIS windspeed being in f/s instead of knots bug)?

I think you may be right, I can’t see why on earth otherwise anyone would come on a forum all day just to reply to every post about bugs telling people they are exaggerating the problem or there isn’t a problem. Why even be in the forum rather than playing their perfect game? It contributes nothing to come to every bug thread just to downplay the bug and thus reduce the chance of it getting fixed.

If they offered something constructive fair enough but just repeating ‘it works for me, I don’t know what you’re complaining about’ seems a strange way to pass the time and the moderators should really step in because it just makes threads blow up as a to-and-fro starts as members feel they have to prove things that there should be no need to prove yet again.

Sorry but this is simply not good enough, they knowingly broke certain elements of this Sim and left us wondering about whether we would get a Hotfix or not. It’s very poor communication on any level, a reply to a random post on Twitter last night was the perfect example of this very poor communication.

Another Sim I play released an update last week quickly followed by a Hotfix with more to come, plus an update from the Dev. It can be done, just it seems Microsoft/Jorg/Whoever seems unable to communicate effectively after almost two weeks.

The frustration in this thread should serve as a stark reminder to the failings within this simulation, lessons from previous update fiascos are not being learnt - as customers we have a right to vent especially when an update goes backwards and the lack of communication does not help at all.

Let’s keep the thread on topic here.

The complaint of the thread is that Asobo doesn’t know how to prioritize issues, and the implication is that fixing the weather is super simple, one line in the code or something, how come they haven’t fixed it yet?

I didn’t say there isn’t an issue. I said that a blanket statement like “It doesn’t work” means nothing. Then I asked questions to help get better statements about the problem (which I shouldn’t have done because that’s not the subject of the thread. This thread is not about weather issues, it’s about Asobo’s development process).

That’s not what they fixed. They’re still working on anti-cheat as per their post:

What they fixed was the problem introduced back in SU5 (I believe - I don’t use multiplayer) where MP planes would disappear. People have been reporting this for months, there have been a bunch of thread, bug reports, etc and it was brought up in the last 2 Q&As. Didn’t seem like it was terribly important of an issue. Until it appeared in the new racing DLC. Then it was shot up the priority list and became the most pressing issue that needed to be fixed ASAP.

I’m sorry if you disagree, but that seems to really illustrate where Microsoft’s priorities lie. It’s not with the base sim itself IMHO. That’s in “good enough” shape to sell DLC.

well its very clear to me the development process lacks quality control, and i know why that is so.
