Brief description of the issue:
Windows 10 update. NVIDIA Updated. MSFS updated.
After this, MSFS would not start… as per above screen shots.
I have done System Restore back to previous weeks.
Strangely the same problem occurs.
I am now trying to find how to repair my installation.
How do I reinstall/repair?
Failing this I will have to perform a complete Disk recover from my Back Up that I created just before the last update.
Surely there is a way to repair the MSFS installation???
I have just noticed that the “WindowsApps folder” - where the “FlightSimulator.exe” should be is EMPTY.
I am guessing if I can find the “FlightSimulator.exe” I can put it back in that folder. Only thing is I have not figured out how to give myself admin permission to open that folder.
You could try this:
click on windows, right click on MSFS icon then App settings. There should be a repair option.
Hi @FearlessSwan217
Here is if you have through boxed version of the sim
But be aware there are some changes in installing and this could be that it looks different
You are looking in windowsapps but this should be WpSystem folder here is the sim stored with official one storefolder inside
But the main sim with the flightsimulator.exe is in another place, by default on c: drive
I have it on L drive in a self created folder and it holds the content of the sim like the .exe and .dll files etcetera,
This is the folder where mandatory goes
So you have to find and locate this on your pc
Possible is that youre update to win 11 has messed up your drive letters so check all
Below here in this post i wrote this morning but you can use for your search to locate your sim
So wish you well and hope you will be posting new videos soon
In xbox app there is an option to control where you can check file and you can assign where it should search
So if you use taskbar search for flightsimulator.exe first to make sure if it is located somewhere
Sorry if it sounds confused but im not at my pc atm and running on the end of my nightshift
But xbox app have an control option im sure and yes it will choose a default location but you can also tell where you have it.

Thanks. I tried app settings and repair. No change.
I was not game to click “Reset”
I will add more details in reply to @PHSepp796

OK. Thanks. This is what I know.
There are two different <flightsimulator.exe> files.
The first one is here and returns the following error
The second one is in XboxGames. It returns a different error.
You can see this error refers to the ANOTHER FlightSimulator.exe in “.…\ProgramFiles\WindowsApps\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_1/36/2/0_x64_…\FlightSimulator.exe”
The same thing happens when I click on the Main Icon in the Start menu… which means it tries to open the FlightSimulator.exe in Xbox Games folder.
Rather than doing a full restore of my C: drive from the recent back up, I could do a clean install of MSFS2020… which may not be a bad idea given all the updates.
Only thing is I have not found how to do that. Does it require first removing MSFS2020. and then doing a download from MS Store?
Any ideas?
UPDATE!!! Problem solved!!!
I did not realise that I needed the Xbox App for Windows to manage MSFS2020.
Never needed to before… (Not sure why they have to make it that confusing)
Somehow my Xbox App got deleted.

So I Installed the Xbox App.
Once installed, I opened the Xbox App from the Windows Start Menu.
Selected “Manage”.
This opened another menu.
Select “Files” and then select “Verify and Repair”
Warning that some existing settings would be reset.
OK.
Restarted MSFS2020 in my PC
Started up fine / normal.
Does not seem that any settings have changed.
I will recheck my settings later and check the Installation Manager - Market place to ensure everything else is as it should be.
Happy days!!!

Hi @FearlessSwan217
Glad to read that you be up and running the sim again.
That last bit was exactly what i mean but a bit difficult to describe
Because i installed this mainfolder not by the default i know that this is where mandatory files go
This you can see when the mandatory update are installing if you know where this folder is located
on the harddrive
Also on pc where the content of the sim is stored seems to have changed sim ways itself.
So the structure is basically changed.
In Wpsystem folder, in here you find the famous local cache map and what changed in there for maybe is the biggest change is the packages folder which itself holds the onestore official folder
and the sim folders like aircraft airport ect folders and files.
Any way if people cant find in the usual way
They can check it out if structure has chanced
Happy landinÄŁs to all
Sebastiaan
