Hi @SlidHydra647449 ,

Thank you for this report. We’ve moved your topic into the User Support Hub.

The Bug Reporting Hub is for posting suspected or confirmed bugs that other users are able to reproduce without duplicating an existing bug report. Using the template or providing all the relevant information about your bug and sim setup is required in order to provide valuable information, feedback, and replication steps to our test team.

If you are not sure if your issue is a bug or need further input from the community, please use the User Support Hub category. If the community can replicate your issue, first search the Bug category to see if there’s an existing topic. If it already exists, contribute to that report. Duplicate bug reports will be closed.

If you believe it is a new report and no duplicate exists, then create a new bug topic using the provided topic template.

All issues caused by or involving third-party addons/mods should be reported to the third-party developer. Assure that no addons/mods are used when reporting issues in Bug Reports.

There’s a thread that might help you troubleshoot the issue and hopefully find a resolution:

I have had this setup for a while now, and never had such random CTD’s until the latest update. I’ve been a beta tester since 2019 and have never had this issue before.
NOw its to the point where i am waiting for FS2024 or thinking of getting XP 12 just to fly again.

Have tried all the solutions mentioned previously. [Windows re-install, FS2020 clean reinstall with wiping appdata; tried deleting rolling cache, tried switching traffic off , online multiplayer off; Went into my USB device power settings and made sure they were all maxed for full performance. Checked my Windows for errors. Did a memory test. Tried flying with nothing in the community folder.

I don’t like WHEA warning - WHEA warnings suggest issues with the BIOS, BIOS settings or CPU. I hope CPU hasn’t degraded due to a faulty Intel microcode. You forgot to mention the motherboard model.

edit

Do you have the latest BIOS version installed on your ASUS motherboard?

I guess i could buy a new CPU and swap it out and see if that fixes the issue. I did read an article of some hardware issues regarding the 13900 K’s. But i never had this issue before the most recent sim update. My PC seems to run fine otherwise. [except when im trying to play FS2020].

I was hoping eventviewer would help narrow down if this issue is CPU related or not ? Im not sure how to check that. I did look into my BIOS settings too and tried to switch off certain auto power and overclocking parameters [which was recommended in the article about defective intel CPU’s], but that actually froze my PC and i couldnt boot to windows.

I’ve also tried to increase the ‘virtual paging system’ memory fix in the windows control panel and that did not help either.

Currently, as we speak, now FS2020 is stuck on the ‘checking for updates’ loading screen…For the first time today, I tried to run it in ‘safe mode’ after the last CTD and now it does not progress beyond this load screen today.

Looks like i may have to uninstall and reinstall it all over again

Do you have the latest BIOS version installed on your ASUS motherboard?

There seems to be an issue with MSFS connectivity between Microsoft services, Azure and other third-party providers. Reinstalling MSFS doesn’t help.

Good point. I will check my motherboard BIOS and update it.

Thank you for trying to problem solve this. I’m semi-resigned to having to wait for FS2024, and hope i don’t have similar issues with that too.

Latest version include an Intel microcode fix and a new profile for Intel CPUs. After updating the BIOS, make sure to select this profile.
Also, make sure to update Intel ME as well - you can find it on the ASUS website.

I have tried whatever i could think of. Clean install of the sim, windows, deleting rolling cache, updating my intel i19-13th gen CPu mobo bios; using MSI afterburner to throttle back my 4090 GPU. Increasing paging file system; Checking memory, checking Windows, deleting Nvidia shader cache, reinstalling nvidia drivers. shutting off online traffic. Re-installing Visual C++ files.
It doesnt matter.

Since the last update , my sim crashes Every . Single. Time…
Anywhere from 5 to 15 minutes. Whether in 2D or in 3D.

It has gotten to the point where I’m disgusted by this sim, and can’t wait for FS2024. Ive even contemplated switching back to XP12 [ which i used to play before 2019], because even though visually it wasnt as good, it was a rock solid install and bug-free in 2D or 3D. Though frankly i would be dissappointed to get away from MFS.

I just dont know what more i can do to make this sim run. Im hoping there is a sim update coming soon that MAY make this problem go away. It seems like for now the Asobo team is focussed on FS2024 and no sim updates are planned for FS2020.

Are you aware of the microcode issues with the 13th and 14th gen Intel CPU’s?
I’m not a computer guru in the least, but I believe MSFS will put enough stress on your system to quite likely cause this with those CPU’S.

I wanted to remind you about my last post, as it seems like you might have forgotten about it.

Same for me since last sim update 1.37.19.
Impossible to lauch flight.
Reinstalled everything, windows, game, drivers.
Always the same CTD while loading flight.
Community folder empty.

Need a sim update very soon !!!

Config:
Z690 hero rog
I9 12900K
Ram 32Gb gskill trident z5 ddr5 6400.
Rtx 3080 10GB rog strix
Ssd 980 pro 1tb (win 11)
Ssd 980 pro 2tb (sim)
FS2020 Steam

For me it was amourcrate that always causes crashes. Got rid of that and all worked well.

Update. So i did update my BIOS also [ Asus Rog Strix Z790 ], and it still kept crashing. Then somewhere i read that there may be an issue with my DDR5 memory, and the recommendation was to reduce the frequency from 3500 hz or higher to lower. So i went back into my BIOS settings and switched my Intel settings to ’ performance’ from Extreme, and downclocked the memory to 3000 Hz.

Now i can finally play FS and do a short flight from one local airport to another and it doesnt crash at least when flying. Though , when i try to exit after the flight , when i am back in the main menu, it randomly crashes then, or freezes when trying to quit the sim back to desktop.

There was a 2.2 GB update to the sim, #1.38.2.0
i downloaded it today, and so far had a nice long VFR flight over busy airspace [ Chicago], and so far no crashes. Still in the sim downloading marketplace content and thank heavens, no CTD’s yet! I hope whatever the issue was, this update fixed it.

So relieved!!

In my second post I suggested that BIOS settings might be responsible for the CTDs.

Please correct me if Iam wrong.
After a BIOS update, BIOS settings should reset to default – my question is whether the Extreme profile is a default profile? I don’t think it is.

No its not a default profile . Sadly, i had the CTD again, a few minutes into loading a flight. This time over Washington DC. Three times in a row; Really frustrating.

I deleted my rolling cache [some users said to delete it after every update]. I also turned off multiplayer and AI real time online traffic.

Some users are saying it may be a sound driver issue, since before this specific CTD, the sound pauses, then pauses again right before the CTD, so i will investigate any sound related driver conflicts now. I was told [ i think it was an avsim thread], to try switching off Azure Text to Speech in the FS settings.

Today , i turned on AI realtime online traffic and was able to complete a short flight.
So I will continue to add to this thread depending on how things go
