Am I the only one who gets these disgusting cloud patterns? I know the weather system has been seriously downgraded after SU7, but these? It brings me back to good old FSX times
I don’t think I’ve ever thought about clouds as disgusting.
I know this topic has been widely discussed, but the fact that we can’t even be sure if we ever see again such a beautiful weather system as we had before makes me start doubting if I want to stick with MSFS for good. First time since its launch, I guess. I can handle the sad reality we haven’t been able to fly a decent airliner two years from the initial release, I can even deal with occasional CTDs. But this ugliness? Wasn’t the marvellous, immersive weather system one of the main culprits which had caught attention of the most of us and rapidly made MSFS the first flight simming choice for most of us? Well, this is no longer so and I do worry we might be stuck in this mediocre simulation for good. Hope I’m wrong though…
So why open yet another topic on this same issue? To my view all these topics are as repetitive as the clouds in the picture you show here .
Correct me if I’m wrong, I myself haven’t seen any topic discussing above mentioned REPETITIVENESS. Besides, maybe it’d be better if the scale of this general weather problem were clearly visible in the number of topics addressing the problem? Just a thought.
This is a big thread about clouds about 5 threads down from this
Yes repetition is in since day one unfortunately… bad 🤷
in rl there are lotsa examples of repetitive clouds.
Nature does some wonderful things sometimes.
It also doesn’t help that our brains are very good at seeing things that aren’t there. Have a read about Pareidolia.
Or very obvious things like repeating patterns.
Now we all know that is not what is represented in FS2020 huh
This is something I’ve noticed, however one is almost afraid of bringing up weather related issues for fear of being harassed and ridiculed.
That is an immersion breaker for me. I hope they find a way to fix it.
My thoughts exactly. I’m really looking forward to that incoming Q&A to see the way the devs address all those weather system related problems that have appeared.
This is the same with watersurfaces. Since SU5 they are also far more frequently - it seems the texture size for the noise function was greatly reduced (to fit in some tiny videomemory … hmmm ).
For me this is even more immersion breaking.
@ clouds:
I never noticed such repetitive cloud patterns though (but this might be due to always flying low and slow and no tubeliners )
Yep, I’ve only seen them flying on FL300 or above as I’m almost entirely focused on airliners, FBW in particular. But sadly, it happens to me almost during every cruise.
That’s a bit of an overreaction and tbh does it really look that bad in your screenshot, I think this is quite typical IRL, isn’t it?.
Personally, while the individual clouds may not appear as impressive as perhaps before the overall cloud formations as a whole do seem more impressive in real-world weather. I fly a lot in VR so I’m looking at cloud formations all the time, not sure if others agree.
Tiling and ordered geometry are wondrous and beautiful when seen in nature because they are rare in chaotic and organic systems.
They are distracting and disappointing when seen in a video game because they betray the graphics for what they are: a facade trying to look like nature, built from simple, repeating patterns.
The tiles and their noticeable seams were there from the start. But I think @WildTapestry269 points out the culprit: the tile size was significantly reduced when the game was ported to the XBox, and now it’s more noticeable, more often.
Yup, absolutely despise these repetitive tiles. It definitely wasn’t as noticeable before SU7. Now it is almost all over the place, especially over big stretches of open water.
Well i have been reporting these cloudse since day one of FS2020 … so it has nothing to do with SU7
Trust me, personally I’ve been nothing but far from complaining or venting on this forum whenever something is ‘broken’ in my humble opinion. There are plenty of issues which are yet to be addressed that never got me bored or discouraged from flying the true marvel of sim world that MSFS is. But this thing is truly an immersion killer for me. Looks cartoonish, disgustingly artificial and is far from anything I’d seen upon the launch of FS2020. Thus, I started this topic, looking for some insights from fellow flight simmers as to whether this issue was maybe a problem on my end, or unfortunately to reassure myself that it is in fact an inherent flaw of the live weather engine itself. At least for now.
