sadly I realized that with the retail premium version i have to insert the DVD all the time even though the game is connected to my xbox account.
This in mind i have a few questions in the case that i cannot use my DVD for any reason and i hence cannot use my retail version anymore.
Can I buy an additional digital copy and use this beside my retail copy?
Can I upgrade an additional digital copy to a premium edition with the premium code of my retail copy?
Are ingame buys via MSFS market place connected to my xbox account or to the individual copy (digital copy/retail copy)?
As a long time user of fsx i know that addons can be many times higher than the base game. I don´t want to build my fs2020 universe on sandy ground. If the addons are bound to my retail copy (and not to my xbox account) i´m considering buying a digital copy and install the addons on my digital copy.
You can do the number 1, basically buying it again.
But you can try to reach the aerosoft support and explain the issue you have there, maybe they can help you. But I don’t see anything they could do. The DVD version is different from the digital version. Some games, when you buy the DVD, you acquire the digital version with it, but it’s not the case here, as I heard this was due to the DRM they are using.
In retrospect, I would think MS are regretting doing the DVD version. In an application which uses the internet extensively during running, and requires the user to update via the internet at regular intervals, having a “hard copy” of the (now unusable) original sim on DVD is no use whatsoever.
MS should admit this now, and offer a free transfer to the digital version for all DVD owners, even if there are some DRM issues. Personally I normally like to have a hard copy on disc for music or films, for example, but I’m relieved that in this case I did opt for digital, and so have sympathy for those who didn’t.
The easiest thing to do if you have the DVD version is to create an ISO with just those 4 files (from DVD 1) : 0x0409.ini, 0x0410.ini, ISSetup.dll and setup.inx
If you right click on the ISO and select “Open with Windows Explorer” that would do the trick, as if DVD 1 was inserted.
