I noticed that with the latest nvidia driver, Resizable BAR is enabled by default for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. Has anyone else seen this? The options in nvidiaprofileinspector have Rbar turned on by default. msfs-2024
I’m still on 572.70
But I do use ProfileInspector, and have RBAR Features enabled in the sim profile.
I recently did a test and noticed that with the resizable bar disabled I had a performance gain in MSFS2024. This test was performed on Windows 11 24h2
thank you, resizableBar “off” in Bios or only “off” in MSFS2024 via the NvidiaInspector?
Many thanks for your feedback
Me, I did it in the bios.
Apparently if you do it in nvidiainspector, it is reset to ON each time you change the driver.
Thank you very much, I have now deactivated it in the BIOS and in the Nvidia Profile Inspector in the MSFS2024 settings it is also deactivated… ![]()
Is turning off the resizable bar in Bios with an AMD GPU (7800XT) still recommended?
Also, I have read that HAGS in Win 11 is no good for the sim either, especially with an AMD GPU.
But I’m using FrameGen in FS24. No sure if this is affected the way it is with Nvidia?
Is this correct info as well? Also “game mode”, “windowed mode - flip mode” etc. How should they be set?
There isn’t really a hard and fast rule regarding the resizable bar. It improves performance and reduces stuttering on some PCs, while it has the opposite effect on others. The best thing to do is try it yourself.
I’ve noticed that MSFS 2024 recovers more easily from VRAM overflow with the resizable bar disabled. Those with a video card that has less than 16GB of VRAM might benefit from this.
I see. I have 16gb so….I can turn it off? And…hags? =P
Do what I did:
- Load a plane and put it in a parking spot at an airporl.
- Run a 5-minute CapFrameX test. Run the test with cockpit and external cameras.
- Change one of the variables (ReBar, HAGS, Game Mode, Power Plan, Windowed Mode, Vsync, etc.)
- Rerun the test.
- Rinse and repeat.
Try to keep all other variables (time of day, weather, traffic, other graphics options, etc.) the same for each test. You can do the same thing on a repetitive flight plan.
What works best for me might (probably won’t) be the best for you.
I haven’t heard of AMD recommending to disable Resizable BAR. In fact, with Radeon GPUs like the 7800XT, it usually improves performance in most games.
If you turn off HAGS, Frame Generation won’t work in MSFS - it requires HAGS to be ON
Each PC behaves differently - you’ll have to test and see which settings work best for your setup.
AMD GPU user here.
I’ve noticed that in case of VRAM overflow, the graphics card recovers its FPS much faster with ReBar OFF.
It just goes to show how different things can be. My GPU has “only” 12GB VRAM, but with Rebar enabled, I get more FPS and it runs much more smoothly. Rebar enables better VRAM management, so theoretically it makes sense to enable it. But I guess everyone just has to try it out for themselves.
There is a lot of great information on this forum, but this advice is definitely in the top 5 of what I have seen in my short time here, thank you.
