Is there anyway to increase to resolution of the runways? The ground texture resolution seems to drop down with you distance from it, which is fine but it seems to include runways with it. The picture below is zoomed right in just to exaggerate this, but I find when I’m on finals the runway isn’t quite as sharp as I would like it, all those white markings get a bit low res and fuzzy, so do any settings effect this as I can’t seem to improve it? As you can see building well past the runway are sharp.
Did you read TheOriginalBabu’s graphics settings guide on Anisotropic Filtering? He recommends the highest setting of 16x for that. You might want to check if that’s your setting for that property.
Thanks I hadn’t seen that, I’ll have a read through it though anisotropic filtering doesn’t really help with that, the resolution is still low, the picture I posted is with 8x.
That is Texture Supersampling, Recommended Setting: Off, try 2x2 - 8x8
I’m such a newbie ignoramus (see if the AI censor is erudite - didn’t like me calling myself a d-u-m-m-y ). I only know what I read in TheOriginalBabu’s guide. Here’s what he says about Texture Sampling:
Visual Impact:
Impossible to distinguish with AF 16x, main difference with AF off
i.e., he says that if one has turned on anisotropic filtering to its maximum setting of 16x, which he recommends, the exact texture sampling setting won’t make much difference - but it’s easy to try changing both and see what happens!
Exactly, because his screenshots are from the runway and not from a distance, just give it a try.
I just tried it and it makes no difference at this distance.
Go to your installation folder/localcache and open usercfg with notepad.
Change terrain lod factor to 3 or 4. Change preset to custom. Save. Right click usercfg. Properties. Set read only.
Oh and you might want to change the terrain lod slider ingame to 200 before you do this. Otherwise it might not work.
I don’t know if you can duplicate my settings but if you look in photo #2 at the following link, everything is pretty sharp (the difference between the two example photos is the way I uploaded them to the forum). I9 9900K + RTX 2080 TI = Low FPS ?!?!
Earlier in that thread, NineMile1 gave me some settings that gave a higher framerate and weren’t quite as taxing on my computer but were skewed more towards HIGH res but still looked very sharp, had great depth of field, etc. I9 9900K + RTX 2080 TI = Low FPS ?!?! and his sample photos: I9 9900K + RTX 2080 TI = Low FPS ?!?!
Maybe you can find some difference between my settings and yours that corrects your problem. Good Luck!
I tried 4 and it’s hard to say if it made much improvement on the runway at all. I guess I’ll just have to live with it like it is, just a shame the runway blurs with the terrain.
Thanks nothing seems to really help the runway though.
hmm strange, it did work for me. Sure you changed the line ‘preset’ from whatever preset you’re ursing to custom, and set the file to read only?
Did you notice the terrain textures (so not the runway textures) were sharper further away? or didn’t you noticed anything? Otherwise sorry if it’s not working for you. For me the terrain textures were much sharper. And somehow the runway textures look better than yours too. But not sure if that has anything to do with the mod.
I have ground detail slider set to 150 and antisotropic filtering to 16x and I can see major runways from 30+NM away.
The issue with rendering is that even on higher settings it doesn’t appear to render very far in front of you. I found during the bush trips sometimes I couldn’t see the runways until I was very close resulting in having to go around.
I tried manually caching airports I was flying to but again unless you do a fly by youre going to miss the smaller runways.
Yes the file was holding my change okay and going from 100 to 200 was certainly noticeable, but I can’t say I noticed anything after that. But I didn’t have much time to play so I will have another go when I have time.
You can see the difference on the runway.
Texture Supersampling Off
Texture Supersampling 2x2
Texture Supersampling 8x8
Okay I’ve done some screen shots and yes the terrain LOD at 4 does make it sharper, it was just quite subtle the distance I was doing it from the runway. Thanks for that, they just need to make the slider go higher now so we don’t have to reset every time we want to change something else in the options.
At those distances it’s quite obvious, but the distance I was doing it and with AF at x16 I couldn’t see any difference. I’ll try some further away.
Yes these setting are just sharpening it up but the quality does drop off quickly.
@TboltP47 Not AF my friend, Texture Supersampling is an option below (Off to 8x8).
PS: in my case (Nvidia) it helped me to reset the driver (before it was on performance) and the option choice 3D application should be decisive. FPS drop but Visual a big difference.
More details in the distance, compare it to the last picture 8x8 above.
Thanks I’ll try that.
