MSFS2024/PC/not VR
I am seeing shimmering on both side views (3 monitor setup) when flying in snowy areas. Both ground and clouds flicker/shimmer.
I have done some testing and it is not caused by hardware or other software, Nvidia driver, dlss or the likes. The shimmering is caused by MSFS2024, and is only visible on side views when snow. No snow, no shimmer. It is particularly visible when overcast and snow on ground, in afternoon light - visible on side views only.
I have made a short video of the issue showing the flickering/shimmer.
It is replicable every time parked at airport, snow, overcast, afternoon light.
Anyone else seeing this?
Which monitors do you use??
I have checked and it is not created by the monitors.
ok no problem if you don’t want to disclose the brand/ model of your monitors.
It is a very personal and private topic. Fully understand that.
I have tried with different monitors and the issue is still there. I was hoping not to make this a discussion about monitors. I am thinking this may be linked to the snow textures used in MSFS2024, but this is only guessing
You would have to give more info:
- Screen resolution and refresh rate for the side screens (set in Windows > Settings > Display > Advanced)
- CPU
- Graphics Card
- Antialiasing TAA, DLSS?
- Max Frame Rate set?
- Frame Generation (DLSS, FSR3)?
- GSync or Vertical Sync on?
- Graphics Preset (Ultra, High)?
- TLOD (since Terrain LOD may affect this…)?
- Texture Resolution (try reducing it by 1 setting)?
Airport or area you are seeing this?
What aircraft are you loaded in with?
Does it happen with a different aircraft?
Have you tried deleting Rolling Cache and or DirectX Shader cache?

Thanks for input.
I just found out that the artifacts are caused by “Raymarched Reflections” in the settings. These reflections cause texture flickering, and on my system, this setting has to be turned OFF. Now no more flickering/shimmer.

Interesting, I’ll make a note of that and see if it affects or fixes shimmering I see at some airports and some scenery.
I only had flickering on the side view monitors, so I guess turning off the raymarched reflections may first and foremost help those with multiple monitor set ups.
No flickering with Raymarched Reflections on (or off) on my triple monitors.
