Brief description of the issue:

The sim stutters in a rhythmic fashion every 3-4 seconds. I get a frame rate drop of 10fps like clockwork

Provide Screenshot(s)/video(s) of the issue encountered:

Detailed steps to reproduce the issue encountered:

Cleared community folder. clean reboot. Launch sim and go set on a runway. The plane jumps up and down 6 inches while sitting still. Engine running. While in flight I get a frame rate drop of 10 fps running DLAA and 200 100 TLOD OLOD, which all have worked fine for my hardware for months. This started Sunday last week.

Many issues may be due to an outdated graphics card. Please state your Graphics Card Driver Manufacturer (NVIDIA, Intel, AMD) and Version (Learn how to find your current graphics card driver version):

I’m on the latest Nvidia driver as of 5/10/2024, updated on all Chipset drivers. PC works flawlessly in all other games in VR or flatscreen.

PC specs and/or peripheral set up if relevant:

4090 and 5800X3D

Build Version # when you first started experiencing this issue:

latest 1.36.2

Do you have the same issue if you follow the OP’s steps to reproduce it?

Provide extra information to complete the original description of the issue:

If relevant, provide additional screenshots/video:

Hmmm - so if you have made zero changes to your MSFS or Nvidia settings, have there been any non-MSFS changes made to your PC since last Sunday - Have a look at Settings | Windows Update |Update History & see if anything was installed automatically in the background.

Do the same for the Windows Store (&, while you are there, update and Xbox or Gaming Services apps that need updating).

Are you using the Rolling Cache? If so, temporarily turn it off & see if the stutters stop. If so, you could leave it off, or delete & recreate it.

What version and build number of Windows are you on?

Did you by chance run system updates and then you started having issues?

What was last thing that was changed or installed on your system?

Win 23H2 build. all latest .net frameworks, but none of it since last sunday. An interesting observation was the flickering, constant refreshing of my device manager. Something seems to be polling my machine that manifests itself in the game with approximately the same frequency. The most bizarre thing is 3 other PCs in my house are doing the same thing! They are not gaming machines. my rig is dedicated to 2 games MSFS and No Man’s sky. No Man’s Sky runs perfectly smoothly. In VR or 2D no issues. MSFS stutters rhythmically in 2D or in VR. How could the flickering refreshing of device manager be related? Could this be a network intrusion of sorts?

Thank you for asking. I do updates of all drivers, AMD.com and Nvidia Drivers on my 4090. I update all the mircosoft store library app updates regularly as often gaming service and xbox stuff needs updating. windows 23H2. My rig is dedicated to 2 games MSFS and No Man’s sky. I made no hardware changes. The only other weird behavior I see is that my device manager now flickers or refresh at about the same rhythmic rate as the stutters in my sim. This gets even weirder as I check 3 other PCs in my house and the all have this weird Device Manager refresh thing going on. I attempt the “internet solution” of sfc scannow and such but no difference.

More likely a device that keeps appearing, and disappearing rapidly. Typical devices would be USB assuming a physical connecting issue. To rule that out I would unplug all non-essential hardware, leaving mouse, keyboard, and monitor plugged in. No other hardware at all.

What section/device is this affecting in device manager?

3 pc all same issue…is there something else connecting to your internet or wifi?
Alarm system, smart app, fridge etc.
Anyone else using your internet/wifi?

You should really check latencymon results to see what is causing this on your PCs while playing MSFS. I fixed similar issue by just using NDU and reinstaling another driver from the past 537.58 after an windows update (but all my games were affected, not only msfs. Flickering, fps drops, crazy Frametime flactuation), also disabled GameBarPresenceWriter at the same time. There was also a new Gaming Services update yesterday on windows. Your issue is really strange since this is happening on all pcs and only on msfs? Good luck.

Have you tried this fix yet? 23H2 causes the issue you describe. That is why I asked you. I had this same issue.

You will definitely need an elevated PS session for that command to work.

You also don’t need this command as you aren’t running a script, but running it interactively in the PS session:

Set-ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted

It ran just fine for me:

As to whether it does anything useful, who can say.

you hit the nail right on the head. I have a full authentikit bodnar USB based controls set and my Throttle was pinging my USB hub constantly and it acted like an interrupt. So I have a wonky ethernet jack in this DIY set of controls. DIY tax is real. thank you!

that’s interesting. I had recently upgraded to 23H2. I will look into this. I did get a result with a USB issue. My DIY controls had an ethernet cable issue. My throttle was basically pinging my USB port/hub constantly causing this interrupt. It is behaving correctly now but that doesn’t preclude the 5-8% slower possible issues.

Great stuff! :+1:
