Ridiculous amount of time to load the Sim

Hello everyone. I have a higher end PC and starting about 3 weeks ago the load-in time from starting the sim to main menu increased by a significant amount. What used to take 5-7 minutes is now upwards of 40-45 minutes. I have changed nothing recently as far as add-ons or anything else. Again, this just started within the last few weeks. Anyone else have this happen?

Hi @KevinJG124 Does it take as long to load if you start in safe mode?

Normal was 5 to 7 minutes!!?

My “normal” is 2-3 minutes; I use MSFS Addons Linker to keep the size of the Community Folder down although It would have to be pretty full for it to take significantly longer.
First off, is Windows up to date and also your MS Store Apps - go to Library and click “Get Updates” although these usually update automatically.
If no joy there then it sounds to me like an issue with a file the sim is trying to load. Have you tried emptying your C/F and see if that makes a difference? If not I’d guess a file in the sim itself is maybe corrupted, try using the Windows App Manager to repair MSFS.
After that the only thing I can think of is a re-install of the game, perhaps using the “Reset” function in the Apps Manager.
Just a final thought, is your Internet connection okay, pretty obvious but sometimes the simple things get overlooked. Hope you can get it resolved, let us know if, when, and how.

No it takes maybe 1-2 minutes in safe mode

Maybe 3-5 minutes. I should correct that. I did actually time a load in after posting this. 51 minutes

So this PC is only used for MSFS. I keep everything up to date on it. I am on top of all thatbtype of stuff. I have around 50 things in my community. Again, all kept up to date. I have 1.2 gig internet running through a cable, not wifi. I’ve never had this issue before a few weeks ago and now its every single time I start the sim.

There’s a thread suggesting that someone who is having massive load times can only see it “fixed” by using a VPN.

Perhaps that would be an interesting test?

See:

https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/huge-load-times-unless-i-use-a-vpn/635634

OK, so that suggests to me that a 3rd-party addon is causing the problem. I’d suggest the “testing by halves” approach.

  1. Create a temporary folder & move all your community addons there.
  2. Move half of the folders (~25) back to the community folder.
  3. Start MSFS.
  4. If the load time is ~1-2 minutes, that indicates that those folders are OK.
  5. Exit the sim, then move another 50% of the remaining folders back to the community folder.
  6. Continue to do this until the load time suddenly becomes waaay longer. This indicates that the offending folder / addon is in that set of folders. You can remove that set back to the temporary folder & then move a smaller subset of folder to the community folder. The idea is to keep narrowing down the folder set with the bad addon until you find that bad folder / addon.
Hope these instructions make sense! :slightly_smiling_face:

I thought about this as well, but why now. The last time i added anything new was January. Always loaded smooth and in what i considered a fairly quick amount of time. If the sim hasnt been updated on my end, what could cause an addon to to do this after running with no issues.

That I don’t know either. Worth a try though, as with only ~ 50 free community items, you are only looking at 5 tests if all goes well (25 items, 37 items, 43 items, 46 items, all items). If you have any paid addons, include those too. My understanding is that they install into the OneStore folder or elsewhere, depending upon the product.

@KevinJG124
(1 )Are you on the current Beta ?
(2) Are any of your drives mechanical Rotary ones, or all SSD
(3) How much RAM
(4) What other program are you running at the same time you are trying to load MSFS

Because with electronics, things go wrong? It does seem pretty clear that addons are causing the issue, given the quick start in safe mode. Therefore it seems trying to identify which addon is causing the problem is the practical thing to do. Not a 5 minute task, but hopefully it will help you identify and solve the root cause.

Good luck!

Hi there

So to answer questions

  1. Not on Beta

  2. Everything is SSD

  3. 32g ram

  4. I run nothing else on this PC. It is completely dedicated to the sim. I do have the all in one tablet for VR but i dont always fly VR so i dont always run the server you have to start with it. Load in time is roughly the same whether i open that server or not.

I appreciate the responses, im going to start with the community folder and see if its something in thete i guess.

Thank you. I will give this a try!

Then this may upset you… (but I a very happy)

I run MSFS on an Acer Nitro 5 Laptop. A medium to low end laptop.
I load in about 50 items from the community folder, incl the whole navigraph Database and numerous planes and menu tools etc etc

My Load time to world Map is about 1.5 minutes, then to FLY from there about 2 minutes.

I agree , Your 40-45 minutes is totally ridiculous.

have you tried checking your Windows system with DISM and various DISM options
What does your debug Error Console log
look like ??

Mine after loading MSFS and about 1 hours flying

E LOG

Not too bad, mostly issues in addon planes and Asobo/WT stuff ?

Maybe it pays to post because i started the sim up this morning, without having done any of the suggested/potential fixes yet, and loaded up perfect in maybe 3 minutes.
