Ridiculous winds

Anybody getting ridiculous winds in upper altitudes? Just did a flight from Melbourne to Sydney and was getting 153mph crosswinds. And then they change at a moments notice throwing your plane all over the place. Also A320 neo can’t seem to get on the correct altitude. Always about 300-400 ft below. Barometer is set to 29.92 or standard. Sometimes the dang thing just doesn’t want to climb.

Some of the scenery is simply awesome, nice to be able to run at ultra. But man there is a lot of bugs. I can’t wait to get rid of the handle bar. Suspecting many hotfixes coming up.

The altitude is a known bug - see this post, you may need to read the whole thread for context.

153 knots winds at altitude isn’t ridiculous. I have flown with 200+ knots winds aloft in the real world.

GFS showing a 160+ knot jetstreak over southern Australia. But many users are reporting that Live Weather functionality is largely broken. Sometimes the Live Weather data just abruptly cuts off between grid cells. So your winds will abruptly change from whatever to 0. There’s the known altitude bug posted above. Temps aloft have been reported as way too high, which might explain your performance problems as well.

I just checked and those winds are pretty close to actual forecasted winds aloft for that area. 2782.gif (2189×1570) (aviationweather.gov)

Winds have always been an issue for me as well, although as said above 100+ mph winds are not uncommon with jet streams.
You can try not using Real world weather but I’ve just learned to live with the weather quirks for now.

I just finished a one hour flight from nice to rome in a DC6, at 20000 feet, which I noticed. at the departure from nice, the ext temperature on the ground was not working in live weahter, then arrived at 20 000 feet always the same temperature of 25 °C, during my cruise flight I was shaken in all directions, each time I found a real ext temperature (-20) during 1 to 2 mn before coming back instantaneously to +25

thanks to the strong tailwind

If you don’t mind getting a mod for that, there is one over here: No Handle Bar for Microsoft Flight Simulator | MSFS

There are several bugs with Live Weather right now. The wind direction and speed can change randomly at any moment, throwing poor autopilot around, and the ATC doesn’t see the correct altimeter setting so they will usually think we’re either above or below our designated altitude. It’s hugely annoying, the only workaround is NOT to use Live Weather for the time being.

Thanks for all the info above. I did realize that jet streams do have winds at these high speeds but I was getting abrupt changes that was throwing my plane all over the place (shakes). The plane really struggled to fly in it. I’ll be patient and wait for updates.

It’s pretty rough. I’m flying the Longitude right now, and I had a 10 kt headwind. While climbing at FL330 I suddenly had a 146kt crosswind, shooting me way into over speed. (Which is tracked by my VA) At FL340, it suddenly dropped to a 17kt headwind, dropping my speed WAY down. Pretty sure some of my passengers have concussions from being tossed around.

Thanks for turning me onto this mod. It should be a pretty popular one right now.

For me, this happens whenever during flight, in a split of a second my speed goes from 220 to 360, or 250 to 160, while being thrown all over the place, this also fudges the engines of the a32nx/neo, so they’ll be at maximum CL throttle at FL190, and can’t climb further than that because they’ve got nothing more to give me in power. This has made the past couple of days trying to fly a truly annoying experience.

Best thing to do is just fly preset weather until it’s fixed, which hopefully won’t be too long.

I was thinking of just turning ATC off? Is this possible?
I can manage my own altitude to be honest.

Preset weather has the same altimeter problems. I think there’ll be a patch soon. We can’t fly like this.

Interesting read.

Yes broken. Need to wait until they fix it.

This is the issue you are having. As you get close to a weather station the sim reverts to surface level winds and temperatures of that station even though you are up in the flight levels.
