Rift s usb

Hi I was wondering if anyone here with the experience of rift s not turning on when booting computer. I get a usb fault that says device plugged in is not recognized. I have found workarounds to eventually get it working but this is getting annoying having to unplug, plug in, go to device manager, etc. I was just looking for some help on this.

Thank you
Anthony

Assumingly either your USB doesn‘t provide enough power or it‘s an old USB generation. I guess the Rift S required USB 3.1. Since you get it working by plugging it out and in it might be an energy management setting in windows.

Also my Rift (without S) of course requires the Oculus software to be running.

Thank you for the help I have to investigate the power setting, I have tried everything to get this to work. Any other ideas would be appreciated. I’m pretty sure all my usb are up to date. How can I check?

The thing that is weird. Is my computer was my friends and he upgraded big time so he gave me a great deal on this one. It is an i7, gtx1080 32 bg ram, runs msfs great. I can get vr working once I go through all the bs to turn on my rift S. The weird thing is when he owned the computer with his rift s he didn’t have this problem. He plugged it in and it worked just fine. Maybe his left something on this that effects using another headset? I’m just thinking of ideas hoping someone has been through this before.

There is nothing on the software side to check. You need to use a blue coloured USB port for VR Headsets, they should be USB3.1 at minimum. The black ports are older. Also usually it’s best to plug a VR headset in a backside port (directly mounted on the main board), the front USB ports are often not that powerfull. There are exceptions of course but that’s something you need to try.

Yes I am plugged into a blue one, I will just keep looking for answers to this problem. I appreciate your help.

I have the Rift S and have the same problem - it continually says it’s not recognized. I usually unplug/plug back in or switch to another USB and it eventually works.

Yes I eventually get it to work, but I’m wondering if this has an effect on performance and how it works. For example, I will take off the headset and put it back on and it loses its tracking for no reason, I just feel if I could figure this out it would at least let me have peace of mind that it is working right.

Thanks for the help

Hi.

Few months ago I replied about the same problem in another post…

I am still doing the same.

Regards

Yep, i have to unplug/plug back in [ same usb] every time i load windows.
Fixed all usb’s in device manager for power but doesn’t do anything.
I would never buy another oculus device.

Rift S plugged into USB 3 here…never had an issue with this.

I never had an issue when i first bought the rift s.
After a year, the cable went bandy but oculus sent a new one free of charge…very nice!
Alas, i have to unplug/plug every time now.

Yes I’m fed up with oculus, I will be upgrading soon and it will not be to an oculus product. I have had zero help from them and I shouldn’t have to go through all the headache to just get the thing to turn on. Even when I get it on the resolution isn’t that great anyways. I have not tried to update my bios but that makes me nervous because everything else runs fine.
