Usually I have stuck to the air or to the ground in MSFS 2020/2024. Mostly due to my rampant thalassophobia, which turns these games into a literal horror experience even if I’m just crossing a semi-large body of water (e.g. the British Channel).
But last week was my payday and I saw a pretty yacht in the MSFS Marketplace, so I didn’t listen to my impulse control and I bought it immediately. Owning a Sea Ray L650 now, I decided to use it in a different way - not for coastal cruises, but for riverine cruises! After a 3-day test run on the German river Weser, I looked up a list with the longest rivers in the world, sorted it by length and picked the ‘shortest longest river’ as my first proper riverine cruise.
This ‘shortest longest river’ is Flinders River in Australia. So I began my journey at the Gulf of Carpentaria and enjoyed a nice 1h cruise along the winding river, making about 20-30kn in general.
We made 38km today.
I might have parked our yacht a bit ‘unorthodox’ due to me being unable to remember which hotkey shuts off the engine as the in-game tablets don’t work in the 2024 version…
